In June, California Kiteboarding teamed up with Starboard and Dana McGregor for a Starboard SUP Demo and Dana’s kid’s camp. The event took place at Shell Beach, just north of Pismo Beach in San Luis Obispo County and hosted about 20 curious SUP boarders. California Kiteboarding’s Oliver Issa said the demo was great for those who wanted to test a board before purchasing. “It’s free of charge, and not only let’s them sample what they want, but let’s them try a few and compare to get a better general understanding of paddle boarding,” Oliver said. California Kiteboarding employee, Derek, had his first SUP session Wednesday at Avila Beach with California Kiteboarding’s Jason Lee. The summer weather made it a perfect day to get out on the water! California Kiteboarding’s Jason Lee and friends Victor, Brian, Scott, Dave, John, and Caveman had quite the kiting adventure yesterday when they kited 18 miles from Oceano to Shell Beach and back. Jason used a foilboard and hydrofoil while the rest of the gang used kiteboards (giving him an edge on speed). Their route can be seen on the map above. California Kiteboarding’s Jason Lee, Scott Smith from Art’s Cyclery, Steve Nyswonger and his son Mike Beneron, and Ken Krall hit the waves at Pismo Beach recently. The wind hit 12mph; perfect foiling condition speeds! Steve’s son Mike was killing it out in the water. He not only had his jibes on the foil down, but was riding waves. We’ve been really busy here at California Kiteboarding now that kite season has picked up! Kite lessons are in full swing now that the wind has arrived. We’ve had a great time teaching everything from the basics with our Slingshot B2 and B3 trainer kites to more advanced techniques out in the water with our Naish Ride kite, while our instructors use the Naish Dub and Naish Park HD. This kite season we’ve not only been teaching others, but also ourselves. Stand up paddle boarding brothers Julien and Camille Bouyer shared the above video on their YouTube page, tandem SUP surfing in their home of Île de Ré, an island off of France. The brothers both jumped onto a 2016 Naish Mana 9’10” inflatable board to take on the waves. Though the video features many wipe outs, the brothers hold their own quite well!
