St. Augustine’s Boat Drinks: Come for the drinks – stay for the food
Eat It and Like It
by Jesse Blanco

I wish I could say I found this on my own. I most certainly did not. I’ve been frequenting St. Augustine quite a bit in the 4 or so years that the St. Augustine Food and Wine Festival has been in town. I’d always enjoyed a visit to America’s oldest city, but my visits were fewer and father between before the festival set up shop at the World Golf Village. In that time, I’ve come to know quite a few great people. Talented people. Like-minded food people. So when St. Augustine-based photographer Melissa Marcarelli recommended a spot to me, I didn’t take it lightly, but there is only so much food ..read more

Eat It and Like It Supper Club: A few spots available for Sunday
Eat It and Like It
by Jesse Blanco
1w ago
The Eat It and Like It Supper Club was created very quietly a few months ago. Members were given access to private dinners created exclusively for us. It’s a smallish group, 20 members in all. We’ve been gathering for a few months. Our first event was a full house back in February at Desposito’s Seafood in Thunderbolt. Our 2nd Supper Club dinner is this Sunday on the beach-very literally-behind The Deck on Tybee Island. This time out, as we have expected from the beginning, not every member is able to attend. So we have a few empty spots available for the general public. They will not last ver ..read more

Charleston Food Crawls
Eat It and Like It

It was a day I will never forget.  It started the same as any other.  I sat in my home office banging away at a keyboard, prepared to write about whatever eats I had enjoyed that previous week.  I wish I could say something poetically dramatic like the sound of the ringing phone snapped me clear out of a razor sharp focus, but that wouldn’t be true.  These days, most good news comes in silence, via an email.  In this case it was in the form of a question. I’m paraphrasing, but the question essentially asked me if I’d be interested in writing a book documenting Charlest ..read more

Savannah’s Slow Fire BBQ settles in to pseudo-permanent location
Eat It and Like It
by Jesse Blanco

While we can’t necessarily call it a universal truth, more times than not when a new food truck comes onto the scene, the eventual goal is to develop enough of a following and business to establish yourself in a permanent location.  A ‘brick and mortar’ as it is commonly known in F&B circles.  Again, a lot of trucks out there are very happy to not have to deal with the overhead that comes with a permanent space. You know, rent, labor, utilities and all of that fun stuff.  Ultimately it comes down to personal choice. One of Savannah’s most popular food trucks has its eye on s ..read more

Heroes on Horseback’s Savor Sip and Saddle up Chef Challenge

When you are the head of a non-profit, finding creative ways to raise money generally sits at the forefront of any operation. For years, Bluffton-based Heroes on Horseback looked forward to their annual Kentucky Derby party. It was their biggest fundraiser of the year. Until it wasn’t. “50 to 70 percent of our annual budget came from that one event.” says Bob Lee, Executive Director of Heroes on Horseback. So what happened? 2020 happened and the COVID-19 related shut down. Their annual Derby party was cancelled. That was 4 years ago. The farther away Heroes got from 2020, the more they looked ..read more

Headed to the RBC Heritage? That’s one standout burger
Eat It and Like It
by Jesse Blanco

Once upon a time, it was a significant source of consternation in Eat It and Like It world.  It happened all the time.  At first it was fun, then it became less so. Then it became a seemingly monthly duel with someone who wanted my opinion about a particular item of food.  “Give me your Top 5 burgersI” It usually happened during a conversation with a friend.  Sometimes at a party with a stranger, but it-more times than not-came with a game show-esque snap and a point. Sure, I’ll bite. I always do, with a smile. Where the game always goes sideways is when I stumble to name 5 ..read more
