We Love It When a Bengals Draft Plan Comes Together
Cincinnati Magazine

This highly successful iteration of the Bengals was built conservatively. Drafting Joe Burrow first overall was as safe a selection as any team could make. Ja’Marr Chase vs. Penei Sewell was a fun philosophical exercise, but you couldn’t go wrong with either. Outside of the top five in the draft, Cincinnati’s strategy under Duke Tobin and Zac Taylor has been to target good citizens with a high floor, reliable if unlikely to become stars. The free agent signings of note—Hendrickson, Reader, Hilton, Awuzie, Bell, Karras, Cappa, Brown—were solid investments of good but hardly cap-busting money. O ..read more

Gas Light Cafe PHOTOGRAPHY BY LANCE ADKINS Gas Light Café Once upon a time, this was an ice cream and candy shop, then a luncheonette, but for more than 30 years, the Art Deco booths with zig-zag mirrors have held patrons hoisting frosty mugs or burgers and fries. The Gas Light Café is a Pleasant Ridge staple, a place to watch the Xavier game or grab a quick bite, and with a rear entrance and the parking lot it shares with Everybody’s Records, it’s a convenient and welcoming spot. 6104 Montgomery Rd., Pleasant Ridge, (513) 631-6977 Redwine & Co. The Flying Pig began in 1999 “to ensure that all have access to participate,” says Iris Simpson Bush, president and CEO of Pig Works and executive director at Flying Pig Marathon Inc. Cincinnati Magazine
by Amanda Boyd Walters

The pandemic and its aftermath have brought a newfound focus on and awareness of mental health. That’s a good thing, considering Paul Crosby, M.D., president and CEO of Lindner Center of HOPE says we as a population were already in a crisis, especially our youth. “Mental health symptoms can interfere with how we think, act, and feel,” says Crosby. “Every decision each of us makes is affected by our mental health.” Systemic challenges still exist, such as the stigma around mental health care and insurance reimbursement policies, but Crosby says he’s encouraged by recent movement and overall ac ..read more

Arnold’s Bar and Grill PHOTOGRAPHY BY LANCE ADKINS O’Malley’s in the Alley With its hidden location on West Ogden Place made even more hidden by recent City Club Apartments construction, it’s easy to imagine this was once a speakeasy. (It wasn’t; it was a pharmacy during Prohibition.) The dark interior and low ceilings make it feel cozily secretive, and with a mix of patrons that could include nearby office workers shrugging off a tough day, conventioneers still in their lanyards, and Reds fans on their way to a game, you never know what kind of conversation you’ll fall into. 25 W.
