Governor Steve Sisolak today put his signature on SB358, which enshrines into law a path for Nevada to reach 50 percent renewable energy by 2030. The bill, heard in committee earlier this month, was rushed through the Assembly chambers last week so that the governor could sign it on Earth Day. The newly signed law was the result of a negotiation process between lead sponsor, Senator Chris Brooks, and stakeholders including NV Energy, large corporations who have left the grid, and rural electric coops. Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Senators Who Fought Recalls

We disagree. That was the unanimous view of the Nevada Supreme Court today in the final decision on the 2017 recalls of State Senators Joyce Woodhouse and Nicole Cannizzaro. The Justices’ disagreement was with Michael Wall, who was the sole attorney to argue in front of the Court in March on behalf of the people who brought the recall petitions – former Assemblyman Stephe Silberkraus, Chelyn Sawyer, David Satory, Claire Roth, Neil Roth, and Kathryn McKenzie. In late summer of 2017, a coalition affiliated with former Senator Michael Roberson initiated recall petitions against three sitting State Senators – Joyce Woodhouse, Nicole Cannizzaro and Patricia Farley. Woodhouse was in her last term. Cannizzaro – who was recently made Senate Majority Leader after the resignation of Kelvin Atkinson – had just been elected the year before to her first term. Teachers in Clark County may be paid more if they sign on to teach at some of the district’s poorest performing schools. And if they succeed in turning their students around, they will get a bonus. That was the announcement made at The Smith Center Thursday morning during the annual BE Engaged education summit.
