Lil Tecca: HVN on Earth Tour at The Warfield

Lil Tecca put on a hip hop show exactly as they should be. Light, visuals and energy are all factors that must be thought of when putting on a show like Tecca’s and he did not miss the mark on any of these areas. Touring with several artists, Tecca seems to make it important to shed some of his own spotlight on other rising artists. Several openers by the names of Chow Lee, tana, and SoFaygo performed with intensity so high in order to draw out as much energy from the audience as possible. Without a doubt, the crowd reciprocated this with moshpits and constant jumping for the entire night. Wit ..read more

Another Top 25 team was yet again on the right side of a win on Wednesday night as the Utah State Aggies dominated the San Jose State Spartans ( @sanjosestatembb ), 90-70 in the regular season finale inside the Event Center. The 22nd best team in the country, according to the AP Poll, lived up to that title as four Aggie players racked up 15 or more points. Darius Brown II, was a thorn in the Spartan side all night long, stuffing the stat sheet with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists with all his points coming from beyond the arc as he made a career-high 7 three pointers. Respect Radio Series : Let Our Voices Be Heard
KSJS Blog - Student Run 24/7 Ground Zero Radio
by Caroline Mounga
3w ago
Our KSJS team wanted to express the importance of representation of radio in the department name, and what this representation means to them. Our radio station has been a beacon of growth, opportunity, and community on SJSU’s campus for over 60 years. Kara, Sarah and Octavio all sit down with our Co-Program Director Joe Neto and talk about their experiences here at KSJS and their thoughts on the importance of radio. Our message is simple and clear, respect radio….respect KSJS….respect the students that have come and gone, those that continue to build their courage and confidence, and those ..read more

ICECOLDBISHOP (@icecoldbishop) has a legitimate chance of being a pillar within the historic L.A. rap scene for years to come. The South Central emcee dropped his debut album last year in the form of Generational Curse, and it was met with widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike. The album was gradually generating hype as ICECOLDBISHOP had been dropping singles intermittently for six years, as well as an array of features ..read more

Scowl-Coming: A Hometown Interview with Kat and Cole of Scowl

Coachella, Taco Bell, and Australia. Three things that I would never put together unless it’s about Scowl: one of the fastest rising hardcore punk bands from Santa Cruz. I got a chance to meet up with Kat Moss (vocals) and Cole Gilbert (drums) of Scowl during their homecoming show at the Catalyst as we talked about their growth, love for music, and other fun stuff.   Steven: First off, thanks a bunch for this opportunity. To start off, how are you? Kat: Good! Tired. We’re all coming off a really, really busy last year and a half. I feel like I can speak for all of us, like we’re really g ..read more

Reflecting on Sol Blume 2023

Having concluded Sol Blume 2023, I think it is a great time to reflect upon my experience. The first thing I’d like to note about my experience is that it was quite cool being able to see the way this festival has grown from a more niche regional festival to one that is becoming known throughout the country. This year at Sol Blume, the record was broken yet again for attendance. When comparing this year’s festival to 2022, Sol Blume 2023 had 6,000 more attendees, a 13% increase in attendance, fans from 48 different states, and 15 different countries, for a grand total of 46,000 fans in attenda ..read more

The center of my attention. The highlight of my week. These are some of the things I had been feeling prior to this show, and afterward. I could not pay much attention to the more trivial aspects of that Thursday. I had been stuck in a cycle of repetition for the last two weeks or so, and I knew I had to make the mundane a bit more extraordinary. More than anything else, I was looking forward to freeing myself from the rinse, wash, repeat nature of the days and weeks that had led up to this night. Throughout the day, my mind had been dwelling on what the night had in store. With no expectation ..read more

Roll Call, Eightfold Path, and more at S27 Alehouse

It’s been a long month since the hardcore community was able to play in San Jose since the Orifice hosted their last show in early September. This was a show that brought our community together, hang out with friends, and have fun to live music.    S27 Alehouse hosted the San Jose show with their parking lot for ~300 attendees. I was talking with Drain frontman Sammy Ciaramitaro, and he was amazed to see lots of new faces in our scene. He said that this reminded him of “a mini RBS show,” a callback to the 2021 outdoor show that had Sunami, Scowl, Drain, and Gulch all in the same line ..read more

The countdown to tip-off is on as San Jose State Men’s Basketball ( @sanjosestatembb ) is ready to replicate and build off a historic season in 2022. The Spartans went on to earn their most wins since 1980 after finishing 21-14 overall and 10-8 against the Mountain West Conference. The season ended with a monumental overtime victory in the Mountain West Tournament quarterfinal against the Nevada Wolfpack. San Jose State obtained their first tournament victory since joining the conference in 2013. Along with the quality wins, starting point guard Omari Moore was granted the Mountain West P ..read more

Four Tet at the Cow Palace
KSJS Blog - Student Run 24/7 Ground Zero Radio

On Saturday October 28th, Four Tet played at the Cow Palace in Daly City in an event created by Do LaB. Do LaB has previously worked on stages in Coachella, and built a lot of the set around the elements of that festival. Four Tet played for nearly five hours on his own. He has recently furthered into much more EDM focused music, collaborating with the likes of Skrillex and Fred Again… Before we went to this show, we weren’t sure if Four Tet would be playing his earlier IDM sound or his most recent endeavors. Neither of us have really listened deeply to his catalog so regardless of sound it wo ..read more
