It's day three in Abilene and it's our last day in this charming town. Daylight savings set in on this day making us even more exhausted than we were the night before. This town had so much to offer and we spent every minute of our weekend taking it all in. It may be considered a small town, but there has been nothing small about the amount of things to do and see.  (When you find a school named after you, you have to stop and take a pic!) On our last day, we are "walking" the Cowboy Art Trail. And no, it's not really a walking tour. However there are several cowboy boots and mu ..read more

Weekend Road Trip to Abiline - Day Two

On this Saturday morning, we needed to fuel up for a full day of exploring and we did just that at Joe Snuffy's Old Fashion Grill. This diner vibed restaurant is, in the words of McKinley, a place where everyone knows everyone there. And he was so right. While waiting for our table, I loved seeing the locals all chatting with friends and family at other tables as they were either arriving or leaving. That's not something you experience often in Overland Park. Once seated, we browsed the menu which had all the comfort food options you could ask for! My husband noticed on the menu board ..read more

We kicked off spring break with a road trip to Abilene, KS. Abilene is a quick two hours from Kansas City, a totally doable trip for anyone looking to get away for quick weekend of fun! And there is truly something for everyone in this small western town that is big on charm! Abilene was named one of the "Best Small Towns to Visit" by Smithsonian Magazine for a reason. In our short time there, we experienced so much history, culture, and pride. Come along with me while I recap our time in Abilene and take notes for your own visit to the original city of Abilene!  It's our final day in Des Moines. It was an overcast morning, with a chance of rain later in the afternoon, but that didn't stop us from heading to the Blank Park Zoo. The original children's zoo, Des Moines Children Zoo, opened in May of 1966. It was designed around a nursey rhyme theme featuring a castle with a moat, Noah's Ark, and an animal petting area. In 1982, the zoo closed for renovation and reopened in 1986 as the Blank Park Zoo. This all new 22 acre zoo was no longer considered a children's zoo. And since its reopening, there have been several larger additions made such as the ..read more

It's day two in Des Moines and I need coffee! Lots of coffee! After an amazingly fun first day, I woke up exhausted! Anyone else do that on vacation? After running down to grab coffee, and some breakfast for the fellas, we were fueled up and ready to take on day two. We spent the entire day at Adventureland Resort and I can't wait to share more on this amusement park that is packed to the gill with fun! Adventureland Resort opened in 1974 and has grown to more than 100 rides, shows, and attractions, adding two new rides this season. They offer Adventure Bay (a water park), the Adventu ..read more

Last week we took to the open highway and made the three hour drive to Des Moines, Iowa! We made a quick overnight stop last summer, on our way to Minnesota, and I knew we needed to make our way back for an extended stay. The City of Des Moines was our host for the two day family fun getaway and we had so much fun! Des Moines is the capital of Iowa and it's gorgeous capital building is visible from most areas of downtown. There are over 200,000 residents within the 49 neighborhoods that make up the city of Des Moines. It is the fastest growing city in the Midwest, however it felt slow ..read more

Last Friday we attended Christmas Con, a "nationally holiday themed convention", but let's be honest, the convention is centered around made for TV Christmas movies. If you didn't already know, I'm an enormous fan of Hallmark Christmas movies. I love Christmas in July where Hallmark re-runs classics and introduces new ones for the current years lineup. And Countdown to Christmas takes place the week of Halloween and I am always ready with my Hallmark Movie Checklist app. My FNDLY app is full of all of my favorites so that I can watch them all year long. Side note, my writing partner and I ha ..read more

Summer is finally here! Kids are out of school, but with the hustle and bustle that was May wrap up, you may be finding yourself without much on the to-do calendar, aside from the occasional camp. I make a summer bucket list every season, but sometimes I find that even it grows tired. Lately, I've been in favor of small day and weekend trips. Something that gets out of town, but doesn't take hours to get to our fun destination. Enter Wamego, KS. If you haven't been to this quaint town, this summer is the time to go. We stopped here in the spring on our way from Hutchinson to Tope ..read more

A Weekend in Hutchinson, Kansas - Mural Tour

I love taking the time to walk around a town and discover their local art. Hutchinson has a beautiful mural scene as well as sculpture display. We took some time on our second day to walk around town and find as many murals as we could. And to help us, we used their handy mural map. Take the tour with us. This is the Ad Astra Mural located on South Walnut. It is one of the oldest murals in downtown Hutchinson. This colorful mural was designed by Shaelee Mendenhall and is entitled Community Mural. This painting represents all of the Hutchinson landmarks. We stood before it and tried ..read more
