Dover High rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to edge Cape Henlopen, 68-65, in Henlopen North boys’ basketball on Monday evening. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Senators (8-2), who got a team-high 20 points from sophomore Jaheim Harrell. Dymear Yelverton (12) and Elijah Sessoms (11) also scored in double figures for Dover. Shelters keep local homeless out of the cold despite pandemic

As Downstate Delaware faces a stretch of wintry weather, volunteers in both Kent and Sussex counties are making sure local unhoused people have somewhere warm to spend the night. “Code Purple is an emergency cold-weather shelter,” said Nikki Gonzalez, the director of the organization’s Sussex County branch. “There are very few restrictions.” She said Code Purple shelters are available to almost anyone in need. DOVER — Two arrests have been made regarding a Jan. 27 robbery in the 600 block of Pear Street, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said. Tahlik Crowder, 21, was taken into custody without incident Wednesday and a 16-year-old juvenile was apprehended on Friday, authorities said. Both were charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy, third-degree assault, terroristic threatening, attempted use of credit card and criminal mischief. COVID hospitalization number continues to decline

DOVER — The number of individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 in Delaware has dropped to its lowest mark since Nov. 26. The Delaware Division of Public Health reported 200 COVID-19 hospitalizations in its daily update Monday, reflecting data as of Sunday at 6 p.m. COVID-19 hospitalizations fell by 16 compared to the day prior. The last time hospitalizations were at 200 or below was Nov. 26, when the number was at 187. COVID-19 hospitalizations have been on a downward trend since peaking at 474 on Jan. 12. DOVER — A 30-year-old Dover man was arrested without incident following a shooting early Saturday, authorities said. Allen Durham was taken into custody at a nearby residence after a 31-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 400 block of River Road, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said. The injured man was transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus for treatment for non-life threatening injuries, police said. SMYRNA — A Maryland-based company has purchased the landmark Ronny’s Garden World site and plans to open operations as soon as possible, according to an announcement Monday. DOVER — Wesley College told its athletics staff this afternoon that the school will be discontinuing its NCAA Division III sports programs at the end of the school year. The decision comes as the entire college is transitioning to becoming part of Delaware State University, which purchased the Dover school last year. Like almost all small college, Wesley hasn’t been involved in any athletic competition since last March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
