Hello everyone! I keep meaning to pull together a post and lately I've felt so smothered by everything that I really haven't been active much on the internets aside from the weekly theme post for FFA.  I kind of feel like all of my creativity has been sucked out and I'm so stressed that I don't want to be a grouch and lash out on people on the net who don't deserve it.  I can chill in real life but apparently not the internet, ugh.  Anyways, I'm still getting dressed, just not awesome like everyone else who's feeling a surge of creativity.  I do hope everyone re ..read more

I've had this skirt for so long and it's been in my alterations pile almost that entire time, lol.  I finally got around to fixing it and I love how it works for wintery, fairytale-ish vibe.   (I wish I was more chatty but our internet is garbage right now and seems to be really sow in the area, we're all on trying to get school and work done and Alaska just isn't set up for that.  Alaska schools have now been closed through the end of the school year which is understandable but also kind of sad.)  I actually really like this outfit, I woul ..read more

Just layering a bunch of coats, a cardigan and a cape.  I thought I had a good werewolf hunter look going on but nope, my kids said I looked like and evil Mary Poppins or a Krampus.  How they got Krampus from this, I don't know...says the person who thinks this is a good old fashion werewolf hunter lol, ha!  I love the lace top, I feel like it works so well with the black skirt and the cardigan, I really need like a fake corset or a stay to really get the look down though.  I've had this All Saints dress for so long and just now have an outfit shot with it - that's really not goo ..read more

Styling a Prairie Dress

Free People "Yessica" Dress I've been working on this for a little while but last week M at M Get's Dressed wrote a great post about styling modest or conservative dresses in a modern way and it reminded me to actually finish this.  I love the prairie dress revival that's trendy right now and have been looking at way too many 70's Gunne Sax dresses on ebay.  I found this Free People dress on ebay for $15.99 a bit ago and it's a very good replica of those Gunne Sax Prairie dresses and between my obsession with the 70's does Victorian, I'm pretty stoked about this dress. I've put toge ..read more

The Last Avatar: Some Inspired Outfits
Alaskan Weredork | A Style Diary

The kids and I are re watching The Last Avatar and I've been meaning for years to do some Avatar inspired looks. There's a lot of rich world building within the series and a lot of both outfit and makeup inspiration, re Suki!  I started with a Fire Nation inspired look, Azula is probably one of my favorite next to the aforementioned Suki. The Fire nation outfits have lots of sharp lines with flow and I tried to incorporate that with this - the coat has the sharp shoulders with the collar taking influenced from the shoulder spikes and I wore baggy pants with tall lace up boots.  (This isn't me ..read more

Swish swish!  I dunno, I was just wearing a bunch of swishy stuff and my usual tall boots again - these are the knee high, lace up Fryes I bought in the fall of 2018 and I've gotten so much wear out of them this winter, they're pretty much my go-to boot for an outfit right now.  I'm going to be a little bummed when summer hits and I can't wear them any more but it's also probably good to give them a break.  I like layering my dresses for an extra swish and in this case, I wore the black J.Crew maxi I've worn in all of my How to Boho posts. It's a great plain black maxi that has nice movem ..read more

A Post In Which I am Very Grouchy, You're Warned

I've never layered a top on this dress and it's awesome.  I'm trying to play around more and try new things and while this isn't a wild look, it was cool to try something different. This scarf has been an unexpected fun piece for winter.  I normally wouldn't choose something like this - does it even come in black? - but I love the bright colors and the length.   Some vague Yennefer vibes from The Witcher - her outfits in the show had lots of sharp lines and lovely, dramatic fabrics and I was trying to channel that.  Staying at home with the kids. My work has died ..read more

How To Winter- Boho: A Small Guide to Bohemian dressing in Winter

Hi Everyone!  Since the How to Boho guide went ok, I thought I'd try Winter Bohemian, something I've gotten asked a lot about in the past. (Lol, you're rolling your eyes thinking no one asked!  But I've gotten emails about it and I'm happy to get those rather than the creepy tights fetish emails again, ugh.) This guide is meant just to be a base and goes over what I've learned. It is not meant as an all encompassing, the end all, be all guide and I'm not the boho police.  Everyone has different lifestyles and winter climates vary quite a lot. To set up, my winter climate is 7-9 months of win ..read more

I meant to update and life just got away from me.  It's been slowly warming up so it's been nice to enjoy the weather and not have to ear so many under layers.  I realized I had never worn this dress with this coat before and I don't know why, they're awesome together.  I'm actually wearing the dress backwards again - it has a deep v in the front and while I don't mind that, I like how the v looks in the back with the higher neck and the amazing embroidery in the front.  Trying out my new boots!  These are the Jeffery Campbell "Groove" boots in black with embroidery and I've ..read more

Diamonds in the Sky Dress - New Styling for an Older Dress
Alaskan Weredork | A Style Diary

I talked a little in one of my last posts about a dress that I use to love and wore all of the time but had not put on in a while. This was the Free People Diamond's in the Sky maxi dress that was released back in 2013. (If you want specifics.) When I bought it, the trendy footwear was ankle boots and cropped jackets were more popular than the maxi length we've been seeing pop up in streetwear and stores. I'd gotten kind of burnt out on the dress and had put it away for a while in a box but over the last two years I've done a lot of updating to my coats and footwear wardrobe - most of my c ..read more
