I have contact dermatitis on my hands, soap is aggravating it to the point where I am in pain. My skin also reacts badly to fragrance, and an unscented handwash is surprisingly hard to find. Anyway, I am considering using emollient as a soap substitute. However, I can't find any conclusive information about their effectiveness in comparison to soap, specifically removing bacteria. Does anyone on here know? I can see how it would help to remove oil and dirt but bacteria and viruses is more of a grey area. Sick of pain and irritation but don't want to get ill.

My cousin had eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, on her ankles. She tried many medications and applications, but not everything worked. There were frequent flare-ups. However, her situation improved with medications and lifestyle management. I am curious to know if does atopic dermatitis have a tendency to reappear on your skin? How many of you have experienced this?

Atopic Dermatitis (AD), the most common form of eczema, affects up to 20% of children and also impacts the child’s family as the parent/caregiver takes a primary role in management. This research aims to look at the relationship between how a parent/caregiver views their child’s eczema, their perceived ability to manage it and the impact on family life. We hope that findings will inform healthcare professionals when supporting parents and caregivers to manage their child’s eczema.

Since I became pregnant my skin has been really dry and itchy, mostly in my face. I took it lightly because I’m used to it but it’s been getting worse and worse. If I don’t moisturize my skin gets super dry and flaky, but every moisturizer I’ve tried (Avene Xeracalm, Aveeno, Stratia Liquid Gold) makes me flare up - fully red face and a terrible burning sensation. It feels like alcohol on a wound, but on my face. I can’t afford to buy many more. I’m really adamant on not taking steroids. I don’t like using them generally, and definitely not while pregnant. I’m going to a functional nutritionis ..read more

Hey guys, I really want to raise awareness to you that your “eczema” MAY NOT BE ECZEMA! Disclaimer, I may have just been an idiot but I sincerely thought I had eczema for MONTHS. I FINALLY discovered that my raised itchy welts in my arm pits may actually be due to BLACK CARPET BEETLES in my room! I live in a college dorm (yuck, I know) and at about the time my “eczema” got bad, I had an issue with these black bugs. I looked up what bugs they might be, and they are black carpet beetles, which can cause skin irritation in some people. This can open up a whole new course of action to you if you ..read more

Hi guys,
Recently a memory about my eczema resurfaced, even though I'm a grown ass adult, I still remember my father telling me as a child that I was like a cactus because of the way my skin was so dry and itching.
I put it out of my head, but don't know why it came back to me and was wondering if you guys have emotional - not just physical- scars from eczema too.
Thanks ?

I've been using Protopic on different parts of the body (e.g. arms, back, legs) and no issues.. Recently I had flare ups on my eyebrows and scalp, which is new to me. I used Protopic and it got so itchy and red all day. It finally cooled down after showering.
Has that happened to you? What did you use instead?
