I'm a responsible adult. Have solid income, great credit and ALWAYS pay on time. I had 2 personal checking accounts 1 local credit union Lake Michigan Credit Union and Sofi bank (that I love) Anyway. I made a venmo transaction. It inadvertently drew from my lake Michigan credit union account that didn't have enough funds. Fast forward 3 months and I get a letter that there is this negative balance. Rush into the Credit union, settle up the account for like not very much money 140 bucks or something. Teller said that my account is now closed which I thought was weird but whatever, not pumped t ..read more

What's my best option as I wait for paid accounts to be reported?

I'm trying to improve my FICO 8 score/reports to make my rental applications more competitive. It's fairly time sensitive -- I expect my credit to be pulled within the next 10 days. I had one medical debt in collections that I paid in full on May 3rd. I know this will be deleted from my report the next time the collector reports to bureaus, but I have no idea when that will be. According to CreditKarma and Experian, it was last reported in Apr 2024, no date specified. The collector told me 2-4 weeks. Age-old question: is there any way for me to expedite the reporting process? Would a report r ..read more

Hello! I called in to Midland Credit today to negotiate a pay-for-delete. The original amount is $2878 and I proposed $1500 as a settlement to get it deleted. They accepted this offer, and I asked for them to provide it in writing. They told me it was not possible buthey informed me their policy is on the website which states: "Per MCM policy, if an account is paid in full or settled in full after we begin credit reporting, we will request a deletion of our tradeline after the payment resolving the account is processed. We cannot control the timing within which the credit reporting agencies p ..read more

Didn’t see Motion for Summary Judgment coming…

I owe CapOne just about 10k. I do owe it; I don’t deny that. I had children, had to quit working to stay home with them, and I was doing some remote work but ended up not being able to pay any longer. My husband can come up with the money to pay it off, but it might take some time. I got sued in civil court and taking the advice of Reddit and Google, I used SoloSuit to file an answer whereby I denied all the complaints but didn’t really have any affirmative defenses. I was just trying to buy some time and leverage to maybe make a settlement arrangement. Three days later, today, I received a p ..read more

I am 20 years old and your girl has never had a credit card before. When I was 19 I got put onto my car payment plan, or whatever, establishing me some credit. I believe I am somewhere around 750-780, I can’t remember the exact amount but definitely around there. I am by no means a spender, all my money goes to gas, food, or savings. I probably only spend about 300 dollars a month. I plan to treat my credit card like my debit card and then just pay off the balance at the end of the month or whenever the payment is due. So if anyone knows of a good credit card please let me know. And here are ..read more

Help with pay for delete CBE group

So basically I found out this week I had a collections, with CBE group because I’m trying to buy a specific house asap. It’s for an Internet bill with spectrum/charter and I changed all the accounts info to the new residents name and such instead of just closing the account when I moved out, as a result they’ve been reaching out to them and not me (but technically it was my account and I should have just closed it so that’s my fault - they were strangers its dumb I know) So I called them and asked for deletion to pay in full ($280 collection dropped me 100 points) I gave them a sub story abou ..read more

Credit Myth #10 - Closing a credit card hurts your credit.

This is a very common myth that gets brought up frequently in your Q&As and FAQs from various sources. It's out there so much that it's just accepted as being true all the time and you hear people constantly say "I know closing a credit card will hurt my credit." The vast majority of the time, it's an untrue statement. Consider how frequently we see threads titled something to the tune of "Thinking of closing one of my credit cards - how much will it tank my score?" This incorrect perception is strong. The actual closure of a credit card in and of itself does not hurt a Fico score*. There ..read more
