Do We Actually Know What We Should Eat?

I would like to believe that we Americans actually know what we should eat for a healthy diet. If that is true then why are so many Americans obese and why are so many in poor health because they are over eating the wrong foods? It is a fact that mass production and marketing of for these nutrient-poor foods has created a health crisis and the constant advertisements for them adds fuel to the fire. In earlier days before television and the production of so many foods that had little or no nutritional value it was simple. Avoid poisonous foods and eat a great a variety of foods that you could ..read more

Edamame a Perfect Food

For many of us edamame are a little something to nibble on while we are waiting for our real food to be served. Would you be surprised if someone said to you that there is more healthy nutrition in those edamame (young soybeans) than there probably might be in the rest of your meal. Edamame are an excellent source of protein. For example, one cup of the beans has about 20 grams of protein. This compares to about 3 ounces of fish or meat. The soy bean is also a complete protean source containing all of the essential amino acids. Soybeans are also high in fiber, B vitamins, iron, potassium and ..read more

Even if you think that bats are adorable little creatures stay away from them and please don’t bring one home for a pet. It turns out that bats are the leading cause of acquired rabies. The CDC reported that 70% of the reported cases of rabies in the U.S. were attributed to bats. The other 30% were from other wild animals. The problem with bat transmission of rabies is that the scratches and bites are hard to see and easily overlooked. In fact you may even be bitten in your sleep and not know it. If there is even the slightest question seek medical attention immediately to discuss whether you ..read more

At least 35% of adults in nine U.S. states were obese in 2018. The study did not give details about obesity in the other states but you can assume that it will also be high. Obesity is a public health crisis. This abundance of fat is more than a cosmetic problem. It is a major cause of illness and death. Obesity threatens the heart and blood vessels as well as the liver. There is not even one aspect of a healthy lifestyle that is enhanced by obesity. So what should you do if you want to trim up? Let’s start with what you should not do. Don’t be scammed by false weight-loss claims. There is no ..read more

Go On A Low Bad Diet
trienergeticsblog

The title of this blog resonates for me. Think about it for a minute. We are constantly bombarded by advertisements urging us to go on this diet or that diet. We also are constantly bombarded with bad news and scenes of violence. This is unsettling and depressing. It puts us in a state of imbalance. We suggest that all of us need to focus more on the good and less on the bad. Pay attention to the words of an older song from another generation. “you need to accentuate the positive eliminate the negative and don’t mess with mister in between” Instead of taking in all of the bad news try going o ..read more

The nutrition world is being turned upside down because of a controversy on the number of calories in almonds. It turns out that the calorie guides have overstated the number of calories almonds and many other nuts. This is because all of the calories in a nut are not digested and therefore do not count in your calculations about the calories in your diet. In other words they are overstating the calories in the nut. This revelation has led to having many experts dispute the accuracy of calorie counts from other foods. Our position on this subject has not changed. We do not advocate calorie co ..read more

There are so many ads on television promoting the use of testosterone for men who have sexual problems such as poor erections and/or low libido. Yes testosterone will help with these problems but at a price. Testosterone supplementation increases the risk of having serious blood clots. In fact a study in JAMA Internal Medicine found that having used testosterone in the previous six months more than doubled the overall risk of blood clots. These clots can lead to a heart attack, a stroke or even death. Is it worth the risk? That is for you to decide ..read more

Bad News For Smokers

There is no question in our minds about smoking. We advise our patients to not smoke and if they already are smokers we advise them to quit. Unfortunately even if you were to quit today the after effects will linger. Heavy smoking increases your risk of having a cardiovascular event (heart attack, stroke, heart failure or death.) If you were a heavy smoker and were to quit smoking today your risk of having a severe cardiovascular event are less than someone who is still smoking. However, compared to people who have never smoked your risk remains elevated for another 15 years. Sorry but this i ..read more

Fast Foods and Antibiotic Resistance

The overuse of antibiotics in food animals has contributed to the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Consumer and health organizations graded the routine use of antibiotics in 25 of the largest fast food chains. They concluded that the industry has a long way to go before the public can eat beef that has come from antibiotic free animals. Of 21 chains that serve beef, 15 got an F for not having a policy in place to eliminate antibiotics in food animals diet. Only Chipotle and Panera earned A’s ..read more
