This past weekend, 19-20th February, the Ascension Eagles Cheerleaders returned to the Copperbox Arena for the first time since 2020 to compete at Legacy Cheer and Dance’s Super Regional competition- Just Believe! It was a fantastic way to kick off our 2021-2022 season. The build up to competition was not without its stumbling blocks. Ongoing issues surrounding Covid meant that many of our teams went weeks without having full team practices, impacting opportunities to add routine upgrades or being able to build continuity for athletes. Hurdles aside, athletes, coaches and family members did ev ..read more

On Tuesday 23rd November 2021, Ascension Eagle athletes and family members supported a local community outreach project, the Bonny Downs food bank, in putting together Christmas Hampers. Over the weeks previous, AEC collected toiletries, food essentials and ‘Christmassy’ treats so they could be put together into hampers that will be distributed to some of Newham’s more vulnerable families just before Christmas. Gemma Wooster, of the Bonny Downs Food Bank said: ‘Having the children and their families from AEC offer to get involved with some of our work in Bonny Downs was exactly what we needed ..read more

On Tuesday 26th November, volunteers from AEC visited the Bonny Downs Elder project in East Ham, Newham. The project is dedicated to supporting the needs of Newham's older and more vulnerable residents. Our volunteers helped prepare the venue, catering, and took part in the 'Spooky Quiz' which was, surprisingly, more competitive than you might imagine for a Tuesday mid-morning in October. They did a fantastic job, getting stuck in and socialising with the project's members. Michelle Farrell, project director, said how lovely it was to have AEC members volunteer, and that the 'elders' have real ..read more

Eagles Stand Tall at Spotlight Showdown
Ascension Eagles

The Ascension Eagles Cheerleaders put together some fantastic performances at Future Cheer’s Spotlight Showdown this past weekend. With many of the divisions containing routine quality reflective of a Nationals event, rather than the Regionals that it was, we are so proud of how our athletes performed and achieved. AEC coaches worked incredibly hard with their teams in the three week gap between competitions, guiding them to improved scores, more zero deduction runs, and creating a greater intensity in their performances. AEC teams achieved: 3 first places, 2 second places, a third and a fifth ..read more

This occasion was particularly special because it’s venue was the Ascension Church in Royal Docks, the same place that the Ascension Eagles cheerleaders started their journey 24 years ago. The night didn’t disappoint, with AEC members and families, old and new, battling it out to be crowned quizzical royalty. The quiz, alongside the raffle and its amazing prizes, raised over £850.00!
