Help with Valuation of Vandercook Press and Type Drawers

My uncle was a letterpress and fine book artist. He unfortunately passed away in February, inestate, meaning he had no will. The family is trying to determine the value of the presses and type drawers that he leaves behind. The press is a Vandercook UN-I Cylinder Press. Numerous type drawers with furniture. Pictures attached. If you have any experience with this sort of thing (selling/rehoming letterpress equipment), can you please share your thoughts? https://preview.redd.it/9odht4xtnvqc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffe4a1f2bfadaf6afa40a85ade5177343840d5f5 submitted by ..read more

Glad to find another letterpress group! I’m learning to print on a Showcard Model A that I’ve had for many years and never printed on. In fact the last I printed was in my 20s — long time ago. Just pieced the last things needed and getting a feel of the press. Kat submitted by /u/Katerine-Fen [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

DIY letterpress

Hi there! I’m attempting to DIY my wedding stationary with my sizzix big shot! I’m using Cranfield traditional relief ink and it keeps coming out very thin and not quite as bold as I would hope! Also using French Paper (100 lb/ 270 gsm). Wondering if it’s something I’m doing wrong or if the ink is too light for the paper? Any tips appreciated! submitted by /u/SocialistCowgirl_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Type with glue residue

Hi there! I’m a student just starting out as a hobbyist in letterpress, and I’m looking for a lot of type for a fair price. I found a set/lot that I’m interested in, however the seller said the blocks have glue/residue left over on them due to previous owners using them as display :(. Is there anyway this is salvageable? Could I either still press these or remove them without damaging the letters? Also would love any resources for finding used type at a decent price. I’ve been skimming fb marketplace, eBay and Etsy with not the best luck. Just looking for a randomized set I can play around w ..read more

Troubleshooting: Roller carriage on a Reprex?

Hi all! A few years ago I acquired a Reprex cylinder press (after working mostly with Vandercooks and C&Ps prior to), and I have a question that is difficult for me to research due to the relative lack of manuals / literature on the Reprex (compared to an abundance for Vandercooks). It's my understanding that the lower roller saddle (small piece of metal holding the ends of the rollers, which is pinned to the side of the carriage) , which moves laterally as the rollers oscillate back and forth during ink distribution, should have a little "give" to it, to allow movement during oscillation ..read more
