Hello everyone! I’m thrilled to announce that I’m currently writing a flamenco novel! Weeehh! I want to give you a peek into my creative world. Right now, I’m fully immersed in the process of crafting my novel, and let me tell you, it’s quite the journey! The Flamenco Writer’s Innermost Cave of Creation Imagine me here, in my cozy writing nook within my Tiny House, surrounded by notes, with my pink/purple flamenco shoes in sight, either typing away on the keyboard or consulting with my new colleague ChatGPT, all while being serenaded by the honey-filled melodies of Vicente Amigo’s flamenco gu ..read more

SPLASH! Things will get messy…There it goes, emotion blotched on the canvas to magically form a flamenco singer. Or dancer. Or guitarist. Whatever the moment brings him, Spanish artist Patricio Hidalgo Morán invents a performing art called ‘live-action-flamenco-painting’. I interviewed him with flamenco panache and found out: combine flamenco with action painting and things will get messy. Originally published in ‘Mundo Flamenco‘ nr.32, 2015. Flamencos! Join me in Sevilla where I literally find flamenco in the streets. Be it painted, sung, danced or drunk flamenco. I step out of my house and find guitarists playing bulerías on a terrace and I join an improvised flamenco party in one of the antique little bars. -reporting live from Sevilla, Spain A flamenco fiesta in bar ‘La Habanilla’, Sevilla. That’s me in the middle, having finally found the guts to enter the circle of ‘flamencos’.  Fiesta flamenca  On Mondays usually a flamenco party called juerga or fiesta takes place at bar ‘La Habanilla’ at the ..read more

A flamenco dancer on stage looks amazing. But what about backstage, what does it really take to become one? I asked two famous flamenco dancers from Spain, Úrsula and Tamara López, who run their own dance academy in Seville. Hidden behind a roll-down shutter smudged with graffiti in a back alley of Seville you can find a little gem of a dance academy called ‘Flamenco Danza Estudio’ run by sisters Úrsula and Tamara López. They have been my teachers in Seville and inspire me with their artistry and open mindedness. Let me introduce them to you. Tamara, me, and Úrsu ..read more

A Merry Christmas to you all in the traditional flamenco spirit. Watch how it’s done in this video by flamenco group ‘Triana Pura’.  This flamenco group, called ‘Triana Pura’, became famous in Spain with their hitsong ‘Probe Miguel‘. They are all elderly amateur singers aged from 66 to 78 years old and from a flamenco neighbourhood in Seville called ‘Triana’.  Flamenco sing-along ‘Triana Pura’ aims to get people of all ages to move their feet and enjoy themselves with folkloric and flamenco songs, like in the traditional zambomba: a Christmas party where friends ..read more
