Christians are wary of new definition of ‘extremism’
Evangelical Times

Christians and free speech campaigners have responded with concern to the government’s plans to redefine ‘extremism’. The new definition could catch legitimate beliefs, including opposition to abortion, gay marriage, and transgender ideology. The government wants to combat Islamic and far-right extremism by defining extremism as any ideology that ‘undermines the rights or freedoms of others’. Communities Secretary Michael Gove is set to outline plans for a new definition of ‘extremism’ and then to block groups deemed to be ‘extremist’ from accessing venues or public funding. It is believed th ..read more

Evangelical Times

An NHS trust has claimed that hormone-filled milk produced by men who identify as women is just as good for a baby as a mother’s breast milk. A leaked letter from a Deputy Medical Director at the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust defends the practice of using drugs to induce lactation and enable gender-confused men to feed babies. Sent on behalf of the Trust’s Chief Executive in response to a complaint about the Trust’s gender policies, it states that ‘human milk’ is the ‘ideal food for infants ..read more

The one question your kids should never ask
Evangelical Times
by Melissa Edgington

Sometimes Christian parents feel a bit lost in the culture while raising kids. You wonder how to handle the internet, social media, TV shows, and music. You wonder how much to tell your kids about some of the things they’re encountering in their social circles, like gender and sexuality. You aren’t even sure what you think about some of these things. But there is one decision you can make as a Christian parent that is easy. It’s a no-brainer, in fact. You should take your kids to church. Not a few times a year. Not once a month. Not every other week. Your children should know exactly where th ..read more

In memory of Colin Hart (1963-2024)
Evangelical Times

My friend of 25 years, Colin Hart, died a week ago today. Even as I write those words, I’m still shocked and don’t quite believe it. At any moment, I expect the phone to ring and hear his voice. Yet I shall never hear his voice again until we are reunited in the world to come. It was only seven days ago that I received an urgent message, telling me that he had collapsed. An hour later I received another, telling me that Colin had gone. Just seven days ago, but it already feels like an era-defining moment for me. I first met Colin in 1999 when I applied to work at The Christian Institute. The ..read more

The challenge of rural evangelism considered at Norfolk conference
Evangelical Times
by Matthew Pickhaver

New Testament local churches were defined by where their members lived. They are ‘the saints in Ephesus’ or ‘the saints in Philippi’. In our modern society that’s changed: many Christians now travel to worship some distance from home. This is understandable if desiring a sound church or when family- or work-related circumstances might require it. But in most cases it involves attending large churches in cities or towns, leaving smaller towns and villages with little or no witness at all ..read more

Celebrities and influencers such as Andy Ngo and Seth Dillon have joined voices with X chief executive Elon Musk in calling on Ireland to abandon its censorship bill. The Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022’s motive may be good – to combat incitement to ‘hatred’ – but it offers no clear definition of what ‘hate’ entails ..read more

What true disciples do: Adoration and consecration
Evangelical Times
by Ian Hamilton
2w ago
In previous articles we have asked the question, what is a disciple of Jesus? Foundationally, a disciple is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He or she will be a baptised believer who belongs to a local church and shares in its life, worship, and witness. In Romans 11:33-36, and in 12:1-2, Paul highlights two further identifying marks of an authentic disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. First, authentic disciples are filled with wonder, love, and praise to God for his Son Jesus Christ (read 11:33-36). The gospel of God comes not only to restore us to God’s fellowship, it comes to capture the ..read more
