A Note from David: Greetings. Christmas Season is past and we’re having typical Winter weather. On Dec. 23 it got very cold and windy. A lot of Amish people harvested 6” to 7” of ice off their ponds or shallow pools. This ice is stored in a special room and used to keep our food refrigerated during the Summer months. Christmas always brings a lot of joy but almost always sadness too. Our former employee, Ammon Yoder’s 9 year old, Lori, died on Jan. 1 from the flu. She was seemingly a healthy girl. Please keep them in your prayers. David's shop builds our popular Glenwood Dining Table Notes fr ..read more

How do the Amish finish furniture?
The Amish Home | Celebrating 15 Years of Hardwood Furniture

One of the best things about our Amish-crafted furniture is the customer’s ability to customize the finish on any style they choose. Our starting point is typically the wood species preferred by the customer. American hardwoods like oak, maple, cherry, and walnut each have their own unique and distinctive grain patterns. After selecting a wood species, the next step is to select a stain color. Many people mistakenly believe that oak is always a light color, cherry is a rich dark red, and maple is dark brown. In fact, most types of hardwoods can be stained in a variety of colors from light to d ..read more

Almost all of our built-to-order dining tables are available with or without leaves, and 75% of our customers choose extensions for their tables. One of the biggest problems with extendable dining tables is finding a place to store the leaves. Many people choose to store leaves in a nearby closet, but this usually means the leaves are stored on their ends, which may lead to the wood warping. This ..read more

What if the Pittsburgh Mills Mall Closes?

Let’s face facts – it doesn’t look great at the Pittsburgh Mills mall right now. After years of struggling to attract and retain stores, the mall had a high vacancy rate, and that was before it was forced to shut down for almost 12 weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, Levin Furniture closed this spring (pre-pandemic, in fact) and many customers with open orders lost their deposits. The same thing happened a few years ago when Roomful Express went out of business. These two factors make customers nervous about ordering furniture & placing deposits with us – and frankly, understa ..read more
