B.C. puts online harms bill on hold after agreement with social media companies Globalnews.ca
The B.C. government is putting its proposed online harms legislation on hold after reaching an agreement with some of the largest social media platforms to make people safer online.
Premier David Eby says in a joint statement with representatives of the firms Meta, TikTok, X and Snap that they will form an online safety action table, where they’ll discuss “tangible steps” towards protecting people from online harms.

Family identifies man killed in White Rock, B.C., waterfront stabbingCBC News
Police in White Rock, B.C., say they are increasing patrols along the city’s waterfront area after a man was stabbed to death Tuesday night, two days after another man was stabbed and injured while sitting on a bench in the same area.

Ontario scrapping sick notes to cut down on doctors’ paperworkCBC News
Ontario says it will force employers to scrap requirements for sick notes as part of an effort to cut down on paperwork for family physicians.

Teacher shortages see some Ontario high school students awarded perfect grades on midterm exams
Students at a high school in York Region have been awarded perfect marks on their midterm exams in three subjects – not because of their academic performances however, but because they had no teacher.

Nova Scotia Justice Minister Brad Johns has resigned, according to a short statement from Premier Tim Houston on Friday evening.
“I accepted the resignation of Brad Johns as a minister in my cabinet,” read the statement.

Partial power outage planned for Iqaluit this weekend
Parts of Iqaluit will lose power on April 28 while Qulliq Energy Corp. completes upgrades to its power system.
The energy utility company announced the planned outage Wednesday in a news release.
The affected areas will be the 600, 700, and 800 block areas between Natsiq Street to Palaugaa Drive, including Mattaaq Crescent and parts of Ben Ell Drive and Queen Elizabeth Way.
The outage is expected to last from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., the company said.
