Totally broken – Sunday 17th March 2024

Totally broken By the end of the walk yesterday Dad and I were totally broken. Dad was so broken that he had to sit with his feet up watching three rugby matches for the rest of the day. I’m not sure Mum was completely convinced by his arguments, but they seemed ok to me. Mum had the good sense to take my knee brace with us on the walk. She doesn’t like me wearing it all the time as she wants me to keep my muscles strong and not rely on the support. After we’d walked 4.5 kilometres from the start I was limping and trying to put on a brave face. Dad said we should turn around, rather than do th ..read more

Threlkeld to Keswick Again – Saturday 16th March 2024

Threlkeld to Keswick Again Today I shall be walking along the old railway line from Threlkeld to Keswick again. I really enjoyed it when I walked there last year. Although that was when my eye started hurting and I had the ulcer on it. Hopefully this year we can manage to go without any need for a trip to the vet and nothing at all going wrong. I’m also hoping it doesn’t rain for the whole walk. We’re going this morning because Dad wants to watch the rugby matches this afternoon. To be honest, I’ll be happy to have a bit of a nap when we come back so I won’t mind too much if he’s busy. Wet wal ..read more

My dearest Mama Susi – Thursday 14th March 2024

My Dearest Mama Susi My dearest Mama Susi crossed the rainbow bridge on Tuesday of this week. Mum and I were in tears when we heard the news from her lovely humans in Switzerland. The biggest loss will be felt by them and my sister Valeria and the hole in their lives will be huge. For me, it seems impossible that the next time I visit them in Switzerland she will not be there. She was the most amazing Mama to me and all my brothers and sisters. Baika vom Arvenstock – Susi – 6/6/2008 to 12/3/2024 Mama Susi’s kennel name was Baika vom Arvenstock. She was born in June of 2008 and lived to the a ..read more

The ducks are back – Wednesday 13th March 2024

The ducks are back The ducks are back and I’m so excited. It was yesterday morning when Jemima Puddleduck and Frances Drake were swimming around on the pond when I went out first thing. We have really missed them. Sadly, they flew off when they saw me, but hopefully they’ll be back. When I looked to see when I told you about them last year it was the 10th March and they’d already been here for a few days. I don’t know why they are late arriving this year, but we are very pleased to welcome them ‘home’. Mum has already gone to find the duck food and put some out for them. I’ve offered to eat if ..read more

The moral of the tale – Tuesday 12th March 2024

The moral of the tale Yesterday really did prove that the moral of the tale ‘be careful what you wish for’ is very very true. Mum spent the weekend wishing that we could make more rapid progress with our building work. Yesterday everything started to happen at once. I had my paws over my ears as there was some very loud drilling in the room next to us. One man took out a wall. Another man started to be build a wall. Someone else drilled holes in the walls that stayed behind. A trench was dug just outside the front door. The house alarm went off. You know the sorts of things. I was just glad wh ..read more

Visiting Kennels – Monday 11th March 2024

Visiting kennels Today Mum is visiting kennels that I might stay in occasionally. I’m not going with her, at least not this time. Mum is very very fussy about where I get to stay. We used to have the very best kennels in the whole world to be able to stay in. That was Derrings and it was just outside the village where we used to live. Any dog would be happy to stay there. The people were lovely and looked after us as well as we would be at home. Since we’ve moved there have even been times that Mum has made the drive all the way back to North Yorkshire just so we could stay there. That was mor ..read more

Happy Mother’s Day – Sunday 10th March 2024

Happy Mother’s Day Happy mother’s day to all the dog mums (canine and human) out there. I’m spending the day with my human mum and I shall make a fuss of her. My human granny will be here too and my aunt. Mum is cooking a special lunch and has said there will be a little bit for me as I’ve been such a good girl recently. I didn’t tell her about the things I found to eat in the garden yesterday. It seemed best to keep those to myself. Corgis Dad went to meet some Corgis when he was at Discover Dogs at Crufts yesterday. He didn’t need to tell me he had done as it was all he smelled of. Mind you ..read more

Visiting Flossie – Saturday 9th March 2024

Visiting Flossie Today I’m visiting Flossie. At least I’m hoping that’s what will happen. I’m off to Bedford with Mum but I know we have a lot to do. Dad’s going to Crufts today, which did make me feel a pang of jealousy. I could have gone with him, but we all know that Mum is not safe to be left on her own. Mind you, when Mum says ‘road trip’ I always put my paw up to join her. One way or another we always make our outings fun. In the showring Today some of my friends will be in the Crufts showring. We are part of the Working breeds group in the UK. Because our breed only has fairly low numbe ..read more

Yesterday was boring – Tuesday 23rd January 2024

Yesterday was boring Yesterday was boring and I take back everything I said in complaint about going with Mum to the dentist. We didn’t go. As it turns out that would have been much more interesting than the day as it turned out. We didn’t go because Mum said that a 300 mile round trip in storm conditions would be stupid. She seems to be overlooking the fact that a 300 mile round trip to see a dentist might fall into the same category – even if he is a very good dentist. So we stayed at home. The roofers Staying at home would have been far better if the roofers hadn’t been working about our of ..read more

A strange day out – Monday 22nd January 2024
Alfie's Diary

A strange day out Today is another that is a strange day out. Normal dogs have days out that involve sticks being thrown, sand between their paws, or being bought an ice cream. Me? I get a day out to the dentist that Mum still goes to in York. Looking at the weather warnings we’re under, I’m not altogether sure it’s a wise idea, but that is a decision I have to leave to Mum and if she goes, then I go. For one thing, someone has to look after her. On the bright side, if the weather isn’t too bad it will also involve a nice walk, but Mum says she will wait to decide where when she sees what the ..read more
