Adoption Matters joined the crowds to take part in the 2023 annual Durham Pride event on Sunday 28 May, celebrating inclusion and diversity.
Joining the parade, which started at Durham Cathedral were members of Adoption Matters North East team, proudly waving their Pride flag and handing out their very own Adoption love hearts to the crowds.
Nearly 25% of Adoption Matters approved families in 2021-22 identified as LGBTQ+ and the organisation was recently awarded commended agency status by the national LGBTQ+ adoption and fostering charity New Family Social for their inclusivity and s ..read more

Chester-based Manleys Solicitors chose Adoption Matters to support in their Annual Charity Pub Quiz held on 15 May 2023.

In 2022, we were delighted to be awarded membership of the North East England Rainbow Alliance. The Rainbow Alliance is a group of representatives from different agencies, including Office for the Member of Parliament for the City of Durham, Durham County Council, Durham University, Durham Constabulary, Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, who are all about raising awareness and improving responses for LGBT+ people living and working across Co Durham and Darlington and the North East.

LGBTQ+ people are being asked to consider brothers and sister groups this LGBTQ+ Adoption & Fostering Week
The latest estimates in England show that 4 in 10 children with a sibling are separated when placed in care. Adoption Matters is supporting this year’s campaign which is led by New Family Social, LGBTQ+ Adoption & Fostering Week starts today (6 March). It asks potential applicants to think about the number of vulnerable children they could parent or care for.

New analysis shows billions of savings each year across England, Wales and Scotland as a result of children in public care being adopted.
Children who are adopted are likely to have better health, achieve more in education and have better employment prospects than children in alternative permanent arrangements, according to the evidence currently available

A Happy New Year from Adoption Matters, we hope everyone enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing Christmas break. In 2022, we had our first end of year shutdown allowing all our hardworking staff a well-earned break from 23 December to 3 January 2023.
What a busy year 2022 was for us, we placed 83 children with our families which included 17 sets of brothers and sisters.

Children’s charity and leading voluntary adoption agency, Adoption Matters, have held celebration events to commemorate adoption orders made during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Families from across the North of England, Wales, Stoke and Shropshire were invited to the events held in Warrington, Leeds, Blackburn and Durham.
Adoption celebration events usually take place after the court hearing that has granted an adoption order and the event involves adoptive families visiting the court and meeting the judge, who will then present a certificate and invite families and friends to take photos.

SinCera Retail Solutions (SRS) based in Morpeth, Northumberland have very kindly supported children’s charity and voluntary adoption agency; Adoption Matters’ North East Christmas Party with a donation to cover the costs.
The party was attended by over 40 families and their children who all enjoyed dancing, games and a visit from Santa.

Supporter Katie-May Williams, age 24 from Conwy, wanted to do something to raise funds for local children’s charity and voluntary adoption agency, Adoption Matters so she set herself a very tough task.. to walk 21 miles from Colwyn Bay to Bangor in just one day.
On Saturday 1 October, Katie-May completed her amazing challenge, with the support of her friend Samantha Jones (both pictured above), walking 21 miles in just over 7 hours. Katie-May said after achieving her goal: “I cannot believe it!! A lot of aches and pains but it is all worth it for such an amazing charity”.
