City of Manchester Gymnastics has had great success at another British Championships!
This year our gymnasts took home a total of 7 medals and saw Joe Feery crowned the Under 18 Floor champion, and Evan McPhillips became Under 16 champion of the Rings and Parallel Bars (plus finished 2nd All Around).
In the Men’s Under 18 category the club had 3 gymnasts scoring in the top 10 All Around. A fantastic achievement with the added success of Jamiah taking a BRONZE vault medal and our young men qualifying for a total of 10 apparatus finals between them.

This year’s British Championships was an astounding success for CMIG’s gymnasts. Excellent performances from everyone involved and some British titles secured to boot!
Crowned champion of the High Bar in the under 16 championships was CMIG’s Jamiah Richards-Leacock who also took bronze on Floor, 6th on Pommel, 11th on Rings, 7th on Vault and 9th on Parallel Bars — Excellent!
Leading our women’s squad was Akyra Rodgers-Plummer who stormed to become British Aspire Champion on Vault and Beam, 3rd on Bars and a superb 6th All Around.

Children in Manchester return to the classroom from Monday 6th September and our new block of gymnastics classes begins then also.

At the end of 2023 our club received City of Manchester’s top sports award for an “Outstanding Contribution to Sport” to the City of Manchester over many years.
Below is an extract of the speech given before we received the award
The journey for the recipients of the outstanding contribution to sport in Manchester award started back in the early 70’s at Moston Brook High School where a PE teacher, Colin Leigh was developing a boys gymnastics team. The team quickly grew into an affiliated club at the school, and the school gym was taken over by gymnastics apparatus.

On Sunday the 28th January 2024 we held our first in-house competition since Covid. Over 400 competitors took to the floor to perform in front of an enthusiastic audience that totalled more than 1,000 parents/family members over the course of the day.

Please note that our recreation classes take a two week break beginning Tuesday 19th December until Monday 1st January. There are therefore no classes on or between these dates.
The last recreational training day will be Monday 18th December 2023 and classes resume on Tuesday 2nd January 2024.
The club, the coaches and our wonderful volunteers wish you all some restful family time for the holidays and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
