Our turn out today varied from eight to ten members throughout the day. Many of our members are still on their winter break. Even though our numbers were small we accomplished a good deal. As a matter of fact, I got so involved in pinning and making binding that I forgot to take pictures! Shame on me! Sandra S. was working on quilting a previously pin basted quilt and Moira was hand stitching binding with Evelyn. I was making binding for the gray and yellow Circle of Friends quilt while Bev and Audrey were preparing quilt sandwiches for pin basting. During the day we were able to pin thr ..read more

As usual, we had a productive day. Twelve members came out to help with our latest projects. Completed quilts were turned in, comfort blocks were handed in and plans are under way for our raffle quilts for the fall and the Christmas craft sales. Lynn shared with us the fabrics she purchased to fulfill part of our wish list as well as fabrics for our raffle quilts for which she also had the patterns. Nadine quilted “It Takes a Village” which we are donating to the pool fundraising committee. She also provided the batting and backing. The pantograph she used sets off the little houses beautifu ..read more

It’s hard to believe another year has passed and we must now write 2024! I remember clearly the world wide panic about Y2K and all the terrible things that could happen at the turn of the century. Truly, a lot of terrible things are happening but none of it has anything to do with Y2K! We had a good turnout for guild even though a good number of our members have departed for warmer climates. After a day like today, I’m quite happy to be here in Creighton/Flin Flon! We were able to complete six quilts today that were in various stages, some needing quilting, others binding and so forth.  This guild day was an exciting day. Everyone had their challenge pieces handed in, ready to be voted upon, cookies or dainties were accumulating in the kitchen for the evening’s consumption and people were constantly coming and going so I have no idea how many members actually attended.  We did accomplish a number of things. Three quilts were pin basted ready for quilting. Sandra D. brought a set of clamps and demonstrated how to use them for stretching the quilt backings so they would be very tight and make it easier to pin. Because the quilt sandwich is pinned more tightly the qui ..read more

October guild day came hard on the heels of our retreat. It almost felt like we hadn’t left the building! We had a dozen hard working members come out and put in a very productive day. Eight baby quilts were pin basted and bindings cut, two were quilted and completed before day’s end, two more were quilted so just needed the binding applied. These and four basted ones were ready to be taken home and completed. Two youth quilts were assembled from the Twist and Turn blocks made by members. The tops were stitched, backings pieced and all were pin basted. One more batik square quilt top was ..read more

We had a fabulous retreat this fall! Twenty-two members came out to sew and twenty-four members took in the catered turkey dinner on Friday evening. Everyone was busily working on an assortment of projects from bag making to completing quilt tops in progress. Jennifer from Needle Crafts and Studio in Beausejour was in attendance with a variety of fabrics, kits and patterns. She brought a selection of Tilda fabrics to tempt us as well. Whenever we took a break from our projects we were able to browse and shop.  Vendor sales were open to anyone wishing to come in and shop. Je ..read more

With a turnout of 13 to 17 members at any given time during the day, we had a very productive work bee this guild day. Three quilt tops were completed and are ready to be taken to be long arm quilted as well as two baby rag quilts. The rag quilts were courtesy of Eileen who was purging her stash and made a very generous donation of flannels and batting to the guild. Thank you, Eileen, we will certainly put everything to good use! We now have enough blocks to make up two quilts of valour, one with a red centre log cabin block and the other with a yellow centre. Thank you Sheri for working ..read more

It seems that I always start the same way- today was a busy day! Yes, it was a busy day, we had 16 members out and had five sewing machines on the go! Four quilt tops (also known as “flimsies” ) were put together, three quilts were pin basted ready for someone to take home and quilt and one quilt was almost finished hand sewing the binding. Audrey spent the greater part of the day hand stitching binding on an ice cream cone quilt. Hand stitching is a labour intensive job but is a very nice way to do binding. Donna is working on sashing with corner stones for a batik quilt. We stitched ..read more

Here we are in the middle of summer! I hope everyone is enjoying our nice weather and doing lots of outdoorsy things. We had twelve ladies out to our work day, some staying the day, some only a partial day, everyone was helping! Our hand stitchers are making good use of the new Ott lights. It’s so much easier to work with good lighting. Sandra is using the new Juki machine for free motion quilting. The larger throat space along with the large quilting table make the task easier. This machine has a different approach to free motion than most other machines, the quilter works from the ..read more

This is a very busy time of year! Gardening needs to be done, spring clean up time is here and somewhere we find time for our quilting! Guild day was well attended. During the day we had as many as 13 people coming and going. Everyone was multi-tasking, quilting, running errands, shopping and whatever else needed doing. We pin basted 4 quilts ready for members to take home and hone their quilting skills. Another group was busy putting together the batik comfort blocks which needed sashing and corner stones. Sandra S. quilted another baby quilt and applied binding so it is now ready for t ..read more
