Once again we had a very busy day with 15 members engaged in various activities including machine quilting, pin basting, hand stitching and creating new tops from orphan blocks. Sandra is finishing the quilting of this sandwich using free motion quilting. She’s using a different design for each block. Bev and Susan were the basting crew today. They pinned 4 quilt sandwiches which can now be taken by members for machine quilting. This is one of the EMS quilts. Lorna is pressing one of the orphan block quilt tops. Four tops were created today with  the possibility of another four f ..read more

We welcome our rainy weather! It should help our dry conditions considerably. We had a good turnout for our work day and as a result were able to get a number of projects closer to completion. Three quilt sandwiches were pinned, one of which was quilted before day’s end. Several flimsies were in need of borders and are being worked on and some kits were prepared. The SUN retreat will be held in the Creighton Community hall starting on Friday, May 30. Mama bears Quilt Shoppe will be there with fabrics, patterns and notions on Friday and Saturday from 10 - 4. All are welcome to come and shop ..read more

We had a good turn out for our Spring Retreat. The weather wasn’t great so being inside sewing with friends was a good way to spend two days. There were 21 members busily working on assorted projects, some new, some needing finishing touches , all beautiful.  Lorna was working on a 3-yard quilt which she was doubling in size. These patterns start with the basic design and then show you how you can make larger sizes as well. Lorna started with a main colour and then chose pieces from her stash to make a scrappy version of this pattern. Betty was laying out the pieces of what look ..read more

Today was one of those rainy, turning to slushy, snowy spring days for northern Manitoba/Saskatchewan. Despite the bad weather, or maybe because of it, we had a good turnout of up to 14 members during the day. Too rotten to work outside, let’s quilt! We sewed, hand-stitched, pin basted, and whatever else came along. These ladies were busy hand-stitching the binding on several of the comfort quilts. We now have a mix of hand stitched and machine stitched quilts. The hand stitched bindings are beautiful but the machine stitched ones are much quicker. Everyone has their own preference ..read more

Our turn out today varied from eight to ten members throughout the day. Many of our members are still on their winter break. Even though our numbers were small we accomplished a good deal. As a matter of fact, I got so involved in pinning and making binding that I forgot to take pictures! Shame on me! Sandra S. was working on quilting a previously pin basted quilt and Moira was hand stitching binding with Evelyn. I was making binding for the gray and yellow Circle of Friends quilt while Bev and Audrey were preparing quilt sandwiches for pin basting. During the day we were able to pin thr ..read more

As usual, we had a productive day. Twelve members came out to help with our latest projects. Completed quilts were turned in, comfort blocks were handed in and plans are under way for our raffle quilts for the fall and the Christmas craft sales. Lynn shared with us the fabrics she purchased to fulfill part of our wish list as well as fabrics for our raffle quilts for which she also had the patterns. Nadine quilted “It Takes a Village” which we are donating to the pool fundraising committee. She also provided the batting and backing. The pantograph she used sets off the little houses beautifu ..read more

It’s hard to believe another year has passed and we must now write 2024! I remember clearly the world wide panic about Y2K and all the terrible things that could happen at the turn of the century. Truly, a lot of terrible things are happening but none of it has anything to do with Y2K! We had a good turnout for guild even though a good number of our members have departed for warmer climates. After a day like today, I’m quite happy to be here in Creighton/Flin Flon! We were able to complete six quilts today that were in various stages, some needing quilting, others binding and so forth.  This guild day was an exciting day. Everyone had their challenge pieces handed in, ready to be voted upon, cookies or dainties were accumulating in the kitchen for the evening’s consumption and people were constantly coming and going so I have no idea how many members actually attended.  We did accomplish a number of things. Three quilts were pin basted ready for quilting. Sandra D. brought a set of clamps and demonstrated how to use them for stretching the quilt backings so they would be very tight and make it easier to pin. Because the quilt sandwich is pinned more tightly the qui ..read more

October guild day came hard on the heels of our retreat. It almost felt like we hadn’t left the building! We had a dozen hard working members come out and put in a very productive day. Eight baby quilts were pin basted and bindings cut, two were quilted and completed before day’s end, two more were quilted so just needed the binding applied. These and four basted ones were ready to be taken home and completed. Two youth quilts were assembled from the Twist and Turn blocks made by members. The tops were stitched, backings pieced and all were pin basted. One more batik square quilt top was ..read more
