Me and my friend are traveling from Sweden to Hanoi during October the 30th to November the 9th this year. From what I can tell the air quality is the worst from december to mars, so mabye we picked a good time? But I assume that we still should buy a face masks for our trip? We will be living and do quite a bit of walking in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. If we go over 20-30 minutes away we till go by car with Grab. What type of mask should we buy and where can you get one of these when you arrive? submitted by /u/Mister_Makrill [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello! I have a trip coming up in September and I am looking for accommodation for Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang/Hoi An. I have been looking on Booking.com and a lot of them have really bad reviews (even though they have insanely high rating - 9.0+) and people are saying the pictures are not real. I need recommendations for 5 nights in Saigon and 1 in Hoi An, 2 in Da Nang. Thank you! submitted by /u/notjustanybody_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Just some background information: I was born in Da Nang but have been living in the States for a little over two decades now. I visit every few years to see my family. So today, my mom and I stopped by a restaurant to get her lunch. The place was almost empty except for a single tourist who was already eating before we got there. She decided to say hello while waiting for the food. It started out pleasantly enough with us exchanging greetings and discussing where we reside outside of Vietnam. Then, he rudely said, "No, you don't," when I stated that we live in the US. The man outright said th ..read more

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this sub-reddit. I've been to Phú Quốc recently and noticed these white and green lighting on the sea, around the island. They shows up automatically after sunset and not there when I look out of the hotel window in the morning. I wonder what's the purpose of these light? Any ideas? submitted by /u/bbbbb_siu [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello, I'll be traveling to Ho chi minh end of September with a friend and we want to buy motorbikes to tour the country (ideally offroad capable ones to go outcity of the city ha giang ring etc.). The plan is to also go to Laos, Cambodia and Thailand (long trip) so afaik we need to have a blue card for the bike to cross the borders, but not mandatory to be on our name?? As a European I would think of getting some Dual-sport bike but I they told me they are illegal in Vietnam. So the question is anyone can give me tips on ideal bike type for city and off-road and where to get it from with blu ..read more

HCMC to Dalat by Motorbike

I'm looking at renting a motorbike later this week and riding to Dalat from HCMC. I'm figuring out what route to take, and have chosen to skip the highways and take what looks like the more scenic route, this is going off Google Maps. I just wanted to see if anyone had done the journey before and if there is anything I need to consider? I plan on doing it over two days so I'm not rushing or riding at night, so if there is a good spot to stay along the way, please let me know. Plan on renting from Tigit Motorbikes submitted by /u/TheForbiddenSlug [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Get a bit anxious as I've left home for so long. Lots of things must have changed. Guess I will feel like a foreigner in my own hometown. On the plus side, not having to deal with my dad's extended families is great. Horrible people trying to sell off whatever they can get their hands on with the ancestor home and land. submitted by /u/greywarden133 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What are unique stories about Vietnam that deserve to be told?

Hi y'all, I'm traveling to Vietnam in June and July this year and plan to make a YouTube video (or videos) as part of the trip. I'm looking to explore and develop my storytelling and videography skills for fun and as an intellectual curiosity. The content I plan to create will blend intellectual curiosity with humanity (think Yes Theory mixed with Tom Scott). If you have any unique stories, experiences, or places that you think deserve to be captured on film, please let me know in the comments below (I'm open to anything). Thanks! :) submitted by /u/Amazing-Custard-8984 [visit reddit] [comme ..read more
