Yesterday I used Mont Marte Signature Fabric Paints and Odif OdiShine Glitter Gel to show you the 12 easy steps to stencil tea towels. Today I’ll start my 3D flower banner by making a quilted background that will attach to the black banner background I created in my QUILTsocial post on January 8th entitled Sewing a hanging sleeve to your quilt, the easy way. I’ll follow the same basic steps for layering but I want to use one of the threads from the SULKY Cotton Petites 6 Spool Thread Set – Rosewood Manor Assortment to quilt in straight lines and do some topstitching. To make this little banner ..read more

Yesterday I showed you two different ways to make stencils out of freezer paper. Today I’ll use Mont Marte Signature Fabric Paints and Odif OdiShine Glitter Gel to stencil my design onto plain cotton tea towels. Step 1 Pour paint onto the palette. I’ve decided to stick with a spring color palette of pink, purple, yellow and green, so first I’ll pour a bit of the pink paint onto a Mont Marte Round Plastic Palette. The paint is quite thick (which helps it to not run on the fabric) so it’s easy to control how much comes out. I’ll use a couple of foam hobby brushes to pick up the paint. Pour pain ..read more

Patchwork-in-the-Hoop technique on the Husqvarna VIKING DESIGNER EPIC 3

It’s the final day of the week, and there’s still so much to share! I’ve had a blast playing with new stitch techniques such as Floating Stitches on the Husqvarna VIKING DESIGNER EPIC 3, trying out designs from the mySewnet Library, and quilting a quilt with designs from the mySewnet Embroidery Software. Today, I’ll play with patchwork in the hoop, a technique for piecing or quilting in the hoop. The first step is to gather the supplies. I’m making a hot mat, so I first need to get some UNIQUE therm fleece with a heat-resistant layer to protect table surfaces. Therm fleece I went to my scrap ..read more

I love being able to quilt a project using the Husqvarna VIKING DESIGNER EPIC 3. For people who are hesitant to go down the free-motion quilting path, machine embroidery is a great way to add fabulous texture to a quilt. I always tell people they can’t learn by watching or reading alone. It pays to sit down and play! As I mentioned yesterday, I haven’t done a lot of quilting with an embroidery machine, so as I played around with my quilt, I learned many things! There wasn’t enough space in yesterday’s post to highlight all the learning, so I’m sharing all my tips here. Some tips aren’t new to ..read more

I love how quick and easy it was to get perfect in-the-ditch quilting using the Husqvarna VIKING DESIGNER EPIC 3. The right tools (presser feet and a great machine) make a huge difference in the quality of the finished project. OK – so it takes a bit of skill, but the tools help a lot! Today, I’ll use quilt block designs created in the mySewnet Embroidery Software to embroider a motif on each of the 30 blocks in the quilt. We’ve got a lot of work to do, so let’s dive in! I’ve done loads of machine embroidery over the years (can you believe I’ve been embroidering for over 25 years?), but I’m re ..read more

It’s great to be back and share more great features and techniques using the Husqvarna VIKING DESIGNER EPIC  3. Husqvarna VIKING DESIGNER EPIC 3 This week, I’ll focus on quilting this week and maybe add a few extra things. I’ve wanted to use quilt patterns from the Quilt Block Wizard (mySewnet Embroidery Software) on a quilt. So, this week is the perfect time to use the fabulous positioning techniques on the DESIGNER EPIC 3! It sounds like fun, so let’s get started! I pieced a quilt top using solid fabrics. The squares are 8½”, and I made the quilt five by six squares for a quilt that m ..read more

The finish! Using the blanket stitch and binding the spring table topper

It’s a beautiful day to applique! I know I don’t do it very often, but my spring table topper needs a little something special. I’m happy to report that the PFAFF passport 2.0 has a great selection of stitches including a blanket stitch – the basic applique stitch that I like to use. In yesterday’s post, I used several different stitches to get the spring table topper sandwiched and quilted. Now that the quilting is done it’s time to stitch around the flowers to secure the edges. Wind your bobbin To sew with different color thread, first I’ll need to wind bobbins in matching thread colors. Bob ..read more
