In five days a converted Luton Transit van will become my home. I will experience the second UK lockdown on the road, unsure of where I will end up. Presumably I will spend it with non-humans, mostly, to keep me company. In the midst of this, I am hoping to leave behind as many of the unhealthy structures and values of our society as possible and to reconnect with a simpler, more naturally human way of living. How on earth did I get here?… I have lived my life backwards in many ways. At the turn of the millenium I left the small town in Scotland I’d called home for ten years and came to London ..read more

#yogasutrachallenge: To the wise, everything is suffering because of pain itself, the consequences of action, and the impressions on our minds, and mental turmoil from the opposing forces of nature.

- Patanjali Book II Sutra 15 The Buddha told us ‘life is suffering’. This important yogic sutra also defines the suffering (dukkha, also possibly more appropriately translatable as frustration) we experience being bound to earthly life. Reflecting on this every day can bring a wonderful sense of perspective, and perhaps bizarrely, even more joy! If one single virus can destroy economies in a couple of weeks, it shows we are not thinking long-term and taking risks into account.” For decades, alternatives have been e ..read more

Dear ones, I really hope that you are keeping as well and healthy as possible during these times. Here are some suggestions I’ve put together, some of which you’ll probably know, some of which might be new, but hopefully useful to have these together in one place.  Just to acknowledge that of course, everyone’s different and we all have our own unique needs so please listen to your own body/intuition/or other medical guidance you may have received, but generally speaking these should help to support your mental and physical wellbeing at this t ..read more

Waterloo Bridge, April 2019. A row of police officers stands opposite a crowd of environmental activists on day 5 of the ‘rebellion’, an extended blockade of strategic targets and traffic arteries around London and other major cities across the UK and internationally. Coordinated by the recently-formed Extinction Rebellion movement, this is something that feels very new: a tactical, intelligent, disruptive, peaceful, love-fuelled campaign with clear objectives to change the government’s handling of climate change. At the back of the bridge, young families dance to a folk band. Kids play around ..read more
