How to Get a PR! by Ryan Cooper September 2nd was finally here and the team at NRS was ready to tackle Nark Racing’s signature event, Run4 the River Half Marathon 2023, that signaled fall racing was here. After training in the summer heat, the weather was perfect, and the team was chatting about PR’s while praying that the fog would not lift until Monkberry was deep into their set on the beautiful deck at Frog Alley. Due to an issue with wearing spikes on the track that I don’t want to talk about, I made the right choice to Run for the River and not Race for the River. Mat had paired me up w ..read more

2023 New Bedford Half Marathon On March 19th nine members from Nark Racing took the starting line to run the New Bedford Half Marathon. This scenic race took the team and 1,300 other runners through the charming streets of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and along the beautiful coastline. The day started out like many other races with the exception of the gun going off at 11:00 am. Coach Mat, Julianne, Damian and I decided that because of the late start we would make the three hour and fifteen minute drive that morning. This approach seemed to work out just fine as we arrived with plenty of time ..read more

by Carolann Koleci The alarm goes off at 4 a.m.  You are tired from a myriad of mundane things and the stress of work and life is taking its toll.  You’re hungry, but you don’t have time to brew the coffee or wolf down a donut.  It is still dark outside.  But this is the ONLY time you have for your run, a moment of peace, clarity, and reflection.  Some days it seems like magic, and you make it happen, while other days, it is just not possible, and you must pass. It’s 4 a.m. somewhere for us runners and we all know the triumphs and tribulations of life’s journey. Let’s ..read more

It was quite a weekend at the 2022 Flyin’ FAST 5k! We started this event during the pandemic when most of the races had went away. We were still training and needed a quality 5k for our half and full marathon build-ups. We needed a course that was flat and regulation distance in which to measure seasonal fitness of our athletes. Since the inception of this event two years ago we’ve used it numerous times for this purpose. For the most part this event has been a private race that was open by invitation only and kept to modest numbers. That being said, it has grown from thirty or forty registran ..read more

By Daniel Lennon, Michelle Davis, and Chris Bishop Most running articles talk about races after they are finished rather than before they are run. This way some great races are missed that when runners hear about them think, “If only I had known.” So here is a spectacular one you should not miss: Run4theRiver Half Marathon put on by Nark Running Strength on September 3. Dan Lennon said this about last year’s premier Run4theRiver Half Marathon: The Run4theRiver Race is a wonderful event. The course is runner friendly and SUPER fast. It starts at the Mabee Farm, providing a great spot for warmi ..read more

Come Run in 2021: A Program to Deliver New Vigor to Your Running by Christine Bishop and Mat Nark The running community has been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic with race after race cancelled. Gone was the excitement of real races and with it the motivation they created. Slowly races have returned but in a different format that is strictly regulated for safety with social distancing and mask wearing required. ARE has staged races carefully following New York State regulations and they have been highly successful energizing the running community. Races will slowly return to normal as the ..read more

By Stephen Hallgren As I was driving up to Lake George from Albany I knew it was going to be the perfect day for a race. The temperature had dipped into the 30s overnight, but despite the crisp air, the sun was out warming things up and quickly melting the frost away. I’ve never raced the Adirondack 5k, but I was particularly excited for this race. One reason is that there haven’t been a lot of races happening this year, stupid COVID-19 pandemic. I was also excited because rather than racing, I’d be cheering on my Nark Running & Strength (NRS) teammates, while shooting race photos–for my ..read more

Marathon to Match Your Goals

Choosing the correct marathon to match your goals is a top priority. Setting the correct expectation is essential to the process of enjoying and excelling at the distance. It can be tricky and takes some consideration of a handful of variables. In running these days, more athletes are aspiring to run marathons, chase their Boston Qualifiers, and even attempt to knock off an Olympic Trials marathon standard. So let’s decide on whether you’re running for fun, a personal best, (PB or PR) or both. One of the biggest obstacles that I see lies within the athlete’s selection process and choosing the ..read more
