How did the 12 Days of Christmas vanish from our holiday celebrations? In this video essay, I dive into the lost traditions of Christmastime, exploring how consumerism has reshaped our holiday season. From the early roots of the 12 Days of Christmas to the rise of modern advent calendars, we’ll uncover how the commercialization of Christmas has stolen the richness, reflection, and communal joy that once defined the season. If you’ve ever felt the strange, anticlimactic energy between Christmas and New Year’s, you’re not alone! Let’s discuss why this gap exists, how we got here, and what we can ..read more

Walking around town with a mug of coffee that I can wash and reuse is more weird than walking around with a plastic lined paper cup that will sit in a landfill forever? I guess it’s just perspective. Don’t let the fear of being different hold you back! Besides, I’ve found that most people are way more supportive than they are judgmental. I choose to reduce single-use products / plastics for health reasons, (have you seen the latest studies on micro-plastics?) environmental reasons, and savings! I’ve been doing it for so long, that I kind of forget a lot of people can find these things ‘weird ..read more

Do you think refill shops will be more popular in the future? Also, as a PSA - all you need is CLEAN containers! I’ve been refilling this plastic tub for a while! I will say, i’ve fallen a bit off the bandwagon when it comes to refilling a lot of my products. But, one of my upcoming goals is to reorganize my pantry and bathroom and get back on it! I think doing some price comparisons would be really interesting too. I think refilling products and using packaging that already exists makes so much sense. Plus it creates a really streamlined and simplified home - which I think most of us crave. S ..read more

AD | How to perform a waste audit: The best way to reduce your trash is to know what you’re throwing away! Track all of your trash. You can do this by writing down each item you throw away or just go through your trash like I did in the video with gloves. Then you can count each type of like-item or weigh each category See which items have the biggest impact and find new and creative ways to reduce, reuse or recycle! For instance, @megafood found that one of their major waste streams was label backing and they’re now working with the supplier to take the label backing back. They’re also utiliz ..read more
