Cosy hibernation.
That’s the resounding feeling I have when winter starts to dig its heels in. As the days are getting shorter, and the wind is cold, we need to find the simple pleasures that make this season truly special.
The bright sparkling fires and lights which are a beckon in the darkness.
That wonderful feeling you get as you walk into a bright, cosy room from the outdoors. Inviting and warm.
The comforting feeling of your favorite chair as you reach for your current wip.
This feeling and imagery above, is what we drew from for our Winter Seasons club.

I love knitted holiday decorations.
But did you know they have a secret superpower?
Mini-knits teach you all the techniques of larger knits in a fraction of the time!
A mini-version of a knitted construction is a really great way to learn how all the pieces fit together. It’s got all the parts of a full size knitted piece but is knit in a jiffy! You can almost think of them as glorified swatches, or maybe construction swatches?

You know I thought I had a good grasp of historical Irish knitting, but this summer I got a surprise!
A local knitter, Jean Long, came into our studio during our 15th birthday celebration with a very special sweater. It was a knit like I had never seen before from Ireland.
Most traditional Irish knits I’ve encountered have been worked in pieces and seamed together. From the 1950s these were produced for sale, primarily on the Aran Islands with heavy, all over cabling and textures. This style of knitwear is too elaborate and complex for everyday wear, but it was produced for sale and not worn ..read more

Have you ever been so inspired by a hand-knit that you just need to find out more?
This is what happened after Jean long’s visit to the Stolen Stitches studio where she brought us a stunning Irish gansey. We had to visit Cape Clear during Heritage week, here in Ireland this summer, and find out more about the local history and the Geansaí Chléire she brought us.
Join us and press play below, and enjoy our visit to the Irish Island:
The Geansaí Chléire: A Link to the Past
Ganseys are traditionally associated with the east coast of England and, more broadly, the UK. So, finding one on Cape Clea ..read more

Brioche is such a divisive technique.
Would you believe that I ran away from it for many years?
A few years ago I decided to tackle it head on, working my way slowly through different variations in the technique. By the time I finished, I had completely fallen in love with knitting brioche.
I loved the dense, squishy fabric. I loved the dramatic effect of increases and decreases. And I love wearing it! If you’ve been afraid of this technique, I hope the autumn seasons patterns will help you fall in love with it as well.

This year our autumn knit-along is all about options.
This is, after all, why we knit!
Options to get the prefect fit, in a dreamy yarn, in a colour we love.
Yes, it can take a bit of tweaking along the way, but that’s the fun of a KAL!
This year we have a wearable sweater, with delicate details. The basic shape is refined and not too complex, which allows for much more modification to fit different body shapes.
Galanta Sweater Construction
The sweater begins from the bottom hem, with front and back worked separately, initially in a faux cable stitch pattern.
