It Actually Works- Yes it Does ! Many people use their phone as their main photography camera. The size of the phones make them very convenient to carry around and to use. With each passing year the phones are improving all the time and one does wonder if they will ever reach their peak. Just when you think they have, they create another aspect of the phone that leaves you spell bound. I don’t use my phone as the principle camera but so many do. With the price of the high end phones , they are a major investment and they really need looking after. ( I still think the price of phones in Austral ..read more

Is That Your Best Shot ? Can I improve ? Often we take a shot and we might be pleased with ourselves with what we have taken  and yet is it our best shot on the subject? When taking pictures we can be biased with our own work that at times we can fail to see how we could improve on that subject. Is good enough good enough? Are we so biased with what we have taken that we fail to see that there is a way of improving that shot? There are subjects that can be difficult to shoot, to be able to get the right light, to achieve the right composition simply because the subject can be very difficul ..read more

What’s Real Anymore? All images used in this blog are all taken on transparency film! What’s real anymore? As technology is advancing and the whole issue of AI is rapidly moving at leaps and bounds, photography is also engulfed in the whole AI debate. The lastest update in photoshop 2024 is extremely scary and will totally blow your mind. The implications can be scary and unsettling when one thinks of the wider implications.I won’t highlight what’s in the update, there is enough online where you can learn what I’m taking about. It’s called Generative Fill. This is just one part of the update. Wha ..read more

Wildlife Images Are Timeless When we take our wildlife pictures they are timeless. The most powerful aspect about capturing that image is what the image means to you. When you look at the image that you took, so many memories will flood back to you and most often you’ll be able to remember when you took that wildlife image. Wildlife images no matter where they were taken will always be impacting but the greatest impact comes from what it means to the person who took the image. There are times when you can’t even put that into words and you let the image speak for itself. Wildlife photography i ..read more

Eye Level And Ground Level Can Be The Same Thing – How Can This Be? Angle is everything in photography along with light and your composition. Getting low and taking a shot from ground level is always effective . Why is it effective? Simple answer , its not done very often and so when you see a shot like that, it makes an immediate impression. Most of the shots that we see that people have taken are in the standing position. There is nothing wrong with these shots but to have a greater impact on your viewing audience, getting at ground level is most effective. The older we get, there comes a ti ..read more

Have You Ever Thought Of Extension Tubes? This not not a blog on how to use the extension tubes but rather to show you the potential of using them. There are enough videos on line to show you how to use them. There is no point in  myself repeating what they have already stated. Extension tubes are rings that don’t have lens in them,  and they are placed against the body of the camera and from there you place your camera lens on them. The extension tubes are designed to get you closer to your subject. In the 3 that I bought many moons ago they consisted of a 12mm,20mm and a 36mm. They ..read more

Why Things Of The Past? For as long as I can remember I have always been drawn to subjects that reflect the past. Where did this come from? My dear grand parents whom I loved so much had a large farm. On that farm it was like being in the wild places an as a young boy from the age of 5 onwards, this place seemed larger than life. On the farm there was a shearing shed and an awesome rustic old car. I loved this old car as it use to be my grandparents car and since that, things old and rustic I have always been drawn too. The pictures here are not from the farm and sadly I don’t have any pictur ..read more
