Five Happy Things {Week 493}

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while over the last few years. It is my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of the adventures we have as a family. Five Happy Things {Week 493} Last week my son turned 14 years old! I can’t believe he can be 14 already. He received money and parts for his computer, and thankfully an expansion pack for Carcassonne which gave us all something to do together. It was also my own birthday last week. I received a new book from ..read more

On Friday I booked myself a ticket to attend The Stitch Festival at the Business Design Centre on Upper Street in London. I’m not sure I’ve ever been to this show before but I really fancied trying a few workshops and buying some craft supplies. The workshops booked up really quickly so I was only able to book two – Italian corded quilting and making a fabric badge. The Stitch Festival 2024 The Business Design Centre is a beautiful historic building in the heart of Upper Street. Once the Agricultural Hall, built to house the Smithfield Cattle Club Show, it has a huge single-span roof, perfect ..read more

Why I failed to complete a 365 embroidery wheel
The Gingerbread House
by jenny

You may remember last year I was excited to start a 365 embroidery wheel. I read 365 Days of Stitches and was inspired to start my own project, recording every day of the year in stitch. Reader, I failed. Why I failed to complete a 365 embroidery wheel I bought a large wooden embroidery hoop. I prepared a fabric wheel divided into 12 parts. I pondered which colourways I would use (and swiftly abandoned that idea). I kept a note each day of the motif I would stitch, just in case I couldn’t remember what it meant. I photographed each motif and added it to my Instagram Stories. By the end of one ..read more

It is my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of the adventures we have as a family. Five Happy Things {Week 492} The kids have been away at Scout camp all weekend. With them away having fun with their friends we decided to go for a long lunch at the Coy Carp with my mum. The pub sits between the river and canal so it’s a great location for lunch with a view. The weather has been pretty dece ..read more

Car services are a rare instant. You take your car to your mechanic before there is anything wrong with it, and happily pay for him or her to tell you that the vehicle is in good order? Illogical, surely? Well, not really, no. Car servicing is a vital part of keeping the machine in good working order, and it is not something that should be skimped on or delayed for any longer than is strictly necessary. Let’s have a look at some reasons why services are a force for good before you book your next hassle-free service. They Keep the Car Running Cars are not like human bodies – they cannot heal t ..read more

Over half term we stopped off to visit Lacock Abbey and use our National Trust membership cards (which saves us a fortune on days out). Looking back at my blog archives and I can see I wrote a post back in 2013 entitled Family fun at Lacock Abbey. The children were so small on our last visit and couldn’t remember that we had been before. We were excited to bring them back to Lacock for another visit. Lacock Abbey with teens Lacock Abbey is a beautiful property in Wiltshire and a lovely place to visit. As we visited over February half term the house was closed, but we were able to walk around ..read more

It is my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of the adventures we have as a family. Five Happy Things {Week 491} I found a free hamster cage on our local Facebook group and now we have a hamster! We had a couple of trips to Pets at Home to pick up supplies and my daughter chose a hamster she liked as she has wanted one for ages. She is enjoying having a hamster (after getting used to it bei ..read more
