Learning proper food storage techniques will drastically help limit your food waste. Planning ahead is the best thing you can do when it comes to waste related to your diet.
Once you get home, make sure that you’re storing your food properly. To maximize on longevity. This goes hand in hand with my post on reducing food waste.
Here’s some food storage techniques I’ve researched and personally use.
Freeze It
When my husband and I bring home groceries we immediately freeze meat products that we won’t be consuming for 3+ days.
Yes, we still eat meat in moderation. Remember that gradual steps are ..read more

Food waste is a major issue when it comes to sustainability. Not only is it wasteful of our environmental resources, but it’s also a waste of money for you. I’ve noticed that as I became more aware and cut down on our food waste, I’ve also managed to save money.
Step 1: Meal Plan (weekly, monthly or daily.)
Reducing food waste starts by ensuring that you have a plan for everything that you’re purchasing. Whether you’re someone who hates grocery shopping and plans a week at a time (that’s me!) or you’re someone who likes to make a trip everyday. It really helps to know in advance what you’re sh ..read more

Your phone lights up and chimes gently. You see you’ve received an email notification, you open it. It’s one of your favourite stores sending you a 20% discount code for your next purchase.
Another ding: A person you idolize just shared a sponsored post. While scrolling through you see a high school acquaintance, who you’ve always envied, posted a photo showing their seemingly perfect life.
We’re in a world where can’t simply escape the trill of our devices. It feels like every ten minutes we’re receiving a new notification. Whether it’s from social media, the news or our emails. A constant in ..read more

We’ve probably all had a lot more time on our hands to tackle some of the house chores we’ve been putting off for a long time. Along with spring cleaning, we’ve all got a lot of items to get rid of. So how can we tackle decluttering during quarantine in a sustainable way?
The Do’s and Don’ts of Decluttering throughout quarantine
Don’t Leave Items at the Curb
Honestly, you probably shouldn’t assume that when you leave something at the curb that it will end up in a new loving home. But this is especially true during the pandemic.
People are a lot more cautious about what they’re bringing into t ..read more

While I’m not someone to readily support consumption of products, I do believe that it is important to support causes and brands that work toward the change we want to see in the world. Without further ado, here’s five of my favourite (Canadian) eco-living products, eh!

Greenwashing is a sneaky practice. Brands will use clever marketing tactics and techniques to lead consumers to believe that their purchase is more sustainable and ethical than it may truly be.
Here’s 5 Greenwashing Techniques Brands Commonly Use Claims that are unregulated or cannot be proven
A few years ago I wrote a post about Herbal Essences’ newly released Bio:Renew haircare line. To this day it is one of the most popular posts on my website. Consumers, like yourself, have likely caught on that the bio:renew line is questionable.
At the time, Herbal Essences claimed “Bio:renew brings your ..read more

When I was a teenager, Garnier Fructis was one of my favourite brands. Their marketing makes it seem like Garnier is a more natural and environmentally-friendly choice.
Fast forward ten years since I stopped using Garnier products. They have released a new line: Garnier Whole Blends. It’s touted as “paraben-free” haircare and boasts imagery of natural ingredients. So, are they as natural and sustainable as they appear… or is Garnier Whole Blends greenwashing their consumers?
The Garnier Whole Blends Promise
On the Garnier website, they make four gigantic claims: They are “nourishing and g ..read more

Burt’s Bees is a brand that has been around for what feels like forever. Yet they’ve only recently expanded to include makeup and baby care products. Now that the brand has grown so much it’s clear that people are skeptical. Is Burt’s Bees greenwashing?
Burt’s Bees is owned by a larger corporation
Burt’s Bees was purchased by the Clorox company in 2007. Under their umbrella they own a variety of smaller brands like Pine Sol, Brita and Glad. This may raise a red flag to many people. How can a large corporation that is well known for chemical production to sell natural alternatives?

Just over two years ago I posted about the, at the time, newly launched Herbal Essences Bio:Renew haircare line. This post has been one of the most popular throughout the last couple years. Likely due to the fact that Herbal Essences is such a readily available product.
I’ve decided to follow up and see if Herbal Essences has substantiated their claims regarding “Bio:Renew” and whether they have any true certifications which might remove the idea of greenwashing from their product.
Here’s why third party certifications matter. New Information on Herbal Essences

In a past life when I was a self-proclaimed beauty blogger, I somehow managed to get on the PR list to receive Live Clean products. Let’s just say that I only received one box from them. I’m not totally surprised because I’ve always been curious whether Live Clean is greenwashing.
I guess when you post skeptical reviews it doesn’t really resonate well with the brand who sent you free product. Note taken.
There’s something I’ve noticed about Live Clean
Live Clean products all have a very familiar scent. Even though they have a wide variety of scents like coconut milk and argan oil. They all ..read more
