Blocked Again?

Sometimes it seems being blocked in all our big aims happens more often than not. Maybe the aims don’t suit the circumstances. Or perhaps the impediments will pass if we are patient. When things are really blocking us, no amount of self-talk or boot-camp “try harder” aphorisms give us results other than exhaustion and frustration. So it’s usually best in such circumstances to turn our attention to the small details that may have fallen by the wayside. We could even find that dealing with them clears some of the blocks. Do You Have the Gift of True Humility?

Connecting with our own inner truth and seeing how that connects to the larger truth of interwoven systems of being can be a heady experience accompanied by some volatile emotions. To make good use of this connectedness, we must give up personal desires that don’t fit that larger truth. If we don’t, we can end up giving an unedifying performance of overreaching, which ends in disaster and humiliation because it is so out of flow. To connect with inner truth and know its extension in the systems of the world around us requires the genuine humility to recognise how none of it has anything to do ..read more

Do You Know When to Rest?

We all experience periods when nothing moves. We reach out to no response, start the car, the battery is flat, arrange a webinar, and there’s a power cut. Instead of feeling increasingly distressed by the inability to be busy, we can take a break from outward movements and reflect on what we are doing and why (and how). So, when the power is back, and we are charging the car battery and reorganizing that webinar, we have a whole new collection of ideas and directions which may be far more original and compelling than the ones we were going to use. We find we are unblocked outside and within be ..read more

Need to Check Again?

The substantial progress that we make towards a major goal will usually, at some point, require making a state change. For example, we have wired everything up and checked it carefully on the machine we have built but not plugged it in. At this point, it is no bad thing if we are delayed by some doubt and check carefully and cautiously again before switching on the current. Going over it all again in a calm, quiet, well-rested way may save us from a disastrous setback. The post Need to Check Again? appeared first on Liminal Coaching ..read more

Do You Just Need to Take the Next Step?

When we find ourselves with a formidable goal to reach, it can seem like an unscalable mountain. One of the easiest ways of making ourselves feel overwhelmed is to look at the immensity of everything that has to be done. That is because subconsciously, we feel we have to do it all now, which is impossible. Everything happens over time, and at any given point, all that has to be done is to take the next step. Small successes from one and then another step accumulate and grow over time, just like plants grow. Then one day, when you are simply absorbed in taking the next step, you realise you hav ..read more

Are You Carrying a Sack of Bricks?

Unfortunately, it happens to us all, I think. We have a very clear and glorious idea of where we are going and the great things that will be there when we arrive. Only they aren’t there. And it isn’t glorious. In fact, it’s empty, and it doesn’t work. So the message for us when this happens could not be more simple, even if it is often very hard to do. We have to let go of the glorious idea, drop all the expectations and push through the empty space to explore entirely new fields of opportunity. They may have started out as great treasures, but there comes a time to recognize when we are carry ..read more

On the Verge of Greatness?

Sometimes when we can feel that we are approaching something great in what we do, we can become beset with uncertainty and doubt. We hover on the edge of things, wondering if it can really be done. If we reduce our perception to the next small achievable step that needs to be taken, our perception of the stakes involved is reduced. We can move forward this way, achieving something great in small steps and small perceived risks. And in the end, we feel that we have only been on a series of small successful journeys. This approach also means we execute the whole thing with refreshing humility ..read more

If we want to achieve a good relationship and understanding with someone else or a group of people, it is good to step outside any official role and focus on the human beings involved. Focusing on only one kind of result or purpose in building a relationship is unimaginative and cramping to the people involved, and limits what is possible. We can miss enormous opportunities by being unable to let go of our own aims and follow others to get a sense of the depth and scope of what they are doing. We may find it meets our original need and far more besides, or we may see an altogether better aim e ..read more

When nothing moves and nothing works out when petty people obstruct whatever we are trying to do, and all the circumstances around us stand in the way, it’s good to step back and recognize we need to wait for the tide to change. Sometimes that’s just the way things are, and it is better not to use a lot of energy trying to push through something that isn’t going to happen. Instead, if we focus on the small day-to-day stuff and wait patiently, then when things change, we have the resources to move on. As Stephen King once observed, if you live near a sewage farm, sometimes you just have to wait ..read more

Creative Sharing?

In those precious times when we find ourselves on a wave of intense creative energy and inspiration, we should do nothing to block it. It is right to share it with others and what we share is what we are, so there is no need for artifice or concern about what impression is made. We can enlist the help and collaboration of the people we need to make our vision real simply by being ourselves.   The post Creative Sharing? appeared first on Liminal Coaching ..read more
