Ever since making the big move to Copenhagen last year,  our apartment has kind of been a never ending project. We did quite a bit of work before we even moved in, like re-doing the floor and re-painting the walls. But when you move from the other side of the world, you need to bascially start from scratch when it comes to furnishing and decorating the rooms. I have always been an avid fan of reality home decor shows like Selling Houses Australia and Grand Designs. The spaces ALWAYS end up looking so amazing, so naturally I had thought that collecting a bunch of decorative elements and a few f ..read more

Best places to Brunch in Copenhagen

Hiiiiiii!  I am starting to think its no coincidence that my most populated page is my ‘food’ category… I am obsessed with eating out and trying new and exciting danish foods (and TBH, my waistline has not thanked me for it since moving). But, the way to my heart is definitely through my stomach, and so the amazing food options here are bound to have played a role in my ever increasing love for this city. One of the most popular weekend activities here is to go out for a delicious brunch. And I do actually mean brunch – there is no such things as going out for breakfast here as there is in Aus ..read more

Our experience with the Danish ‘Family Reunification’ Visa – what do you need to know?

One of the hardest parts about being in a relationship with someone who comes from, quite literally, the opposite side of the world is making sure that we CAN actually live together in the same country. This means that you have to go through an unavoidable process of obtaining residence permits in whichever country it is you decide to make your home. For us (obviously!) this was Denmark, and so we spent a crazy amount of time reading over the rules and trying to decide which visa was the most applicable for our situation before making the big move in June last year. It became clear quite quic ..read more

Rent a Vintage VW Combi – Is it worth the cute instagrams?

If you’ve read any of my previous blog posts, then you would know that my boyfriend Marc is super into photography. As a girl who loves being active on instagram, this isn’t an issue for me in anyway, shape or form! It also means that he is usually down for whatever crazy ideas I get to snap some cute pictures while we’re on holidays, and there was no exception with my plan to rent a vintage, 1989 VW combi on our recent trip back to Aus. Because the entire preface of this trip was to visit family, we didn’t really have any plans to travel far outside of my home town and the surrounding areas ..read more

Restaurant Review: P2 by Malbeck – Nørrebro, Copenhagen

This week Marc and I had the pleasure of visiting P2 by Malbeck in Nørrebro for a very delicious meal. Although known mostly as an Argentinian wine bar, this cosy place was part of the ‘French Dining Week’ in Copenhagen to which we had bought tickets a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say, we were utterly impressed by the quality of food, wine and service at this place and are already planning another trip back to try more dishes and wines. Keep reading to find out some more about our experience! Aperitif I am a sucker for all things that are aesthetically pleasing, and so I was instantly imp ..read more

Danish Gift Guide: Present Ideas to take Home

I love bringing back gifts for my loved ones that are special to the places that I have travelled. Not only does this mean that your gift will be unique, but quite often it comes with a story. It gives you a chance to tell them about where you bought it, why it is significant in that country and maybe even a few funny anecdotes/stories of your own. I’m not talking about little trinkets from your standard tourist shop, like keychains and big ‘I HEART NY’ t-shirts, but perhaps something with a little more meaning. Here are a few things that I would bring back to my family from Copenhagen. Lakrid ..read more

Copenhagen Survival Kit – 7 items essential for living comfortably in Copenhagen

Copenhagen is a beautiufl city full of rich culture and history, delicious food, sleek Danish design and happy, friendly people. But it’s no secret that, for the most part, the weather is not ideal. There is little more than 6 hours of daylight during the winter months. Add in a mixture of freezing cold, non-stop rain and practically gale force winds and it’s enough to have you sinking into your bed and never wanting to emerge. But don’t fear – there are plenty of ways to make sure that you don’t fall into the dark abyss of a winter depression (see my previous post, 5 Ways to conquer the rainy ..read more

Three major differences in Danish work-culture
Happyness and Hygge - Danish Lifestyle blog by Vanessa Hogan

About two months ago I landed a job as an administrative assistant in a finance firm here in Copenhagen and I have absolutely loved it. While I did enjoy my period of ‘fun-employment’ as I like to call it, I am an extreme extrovert and love being surrounded by other people. Although my job description isn’t exactly related to my education or experience, nothing beats having a place to go to everyday to interact with awesome colleagues. I am having so much fun! What I didn’t anticipate was the rather large difference in work culture between Australia and Denmark. I think that this stems from a ..read more
