Hi, I have been a passionate stock trader for many years, but never traded commodities. I noticed that cocoa is up significantly in the past several months, and I am not sure the price is sustainable. I think it will decrease significantly this year. Is there a way to trade this through options? While I do have strong feelings about the direction of the play, I don’t want to short it. Just options.

Hi guys, I’ve been fortunate to get a first round interview for a grad program at a top shop in the US. If anyone has been through the recruiting cycle and can share common questions that are asked (specifically technical) I would greatly appreciate it !

Hey Guys,
I've been doing some research into this industry for some time but I haven't been able to gather any concrete (or even ball park) figures for how much interest traders need to pay banks when financing commodities.
Option 1:
LME deliverable material (lets say copper), transported from Brazil to China. $20M dollar financing. Trade consists of 4 shipments $5m each. Maximum Tenor is 180 days
Details:
-The trade flow is back to back with Import & Export LCs
-Trade consists of pre-payment to Mine (30 day tenor), inland transport, loading on ship, unloading off ship in China, inland st ..read more

In my firm fuel is a main cost driver and we've been working with a hedging firm for two years to find a good hedge. Currently the approach seems to be correlate fuel prices with some tradeable oil asset and buy the appropriate amount of contracts to last you the month, rinse and repeat.
This has proven lackluster with way too many swings in fuel prices as opposed to predictions and I've been wondering if there's some better approach based on the industry structure or something.
Any pointers would be amazing.

Hi, I am interested in learning more about commodity trading. According to an article published by Bloomberg, Glencore accounted for 11% of sales at Coldeco. My questions:
Why would Glencore’s customers give up some of their margin by buying from Glencore instead of going directly to Codelco? What's Glencore bringing to the table here?
If Glencore’s role is to mitigate the risk of price fluctuation (locking prices with both parties and pocket the difference), couldn't the customers work out some sort of deal with Codelco, like setting up an option or future contract?
If Glencore’s role is t ..read more

I am a noob, please be kind.

- If Glencore’s role is to store/blend the copper, I think Codelco could easily do the same too (?) 2. Does Glencore hi ..read more

Hii im interested in getting into commodity trading, since I'll be specialising in international trade. ive been reading up on futures, options, etc. These are some questions i have:
is being a trade analyst for the first few years (after graduation) the most beneficial before getting into trade? would u suggest better 'routes' ? eg. bunker trader
is it true that many traders are making financial losses due to the current mkt?
do traders use their company's funds to trade? do traders pay back the funds they 'lost' in trading
what are some online materials you would recommend for me to start ..read more

Crude Oil Spotlight March 25, 2024.
The oil market is consolidating. There is strong resistance at $84 for WTI and $89 for Brent.
The stories traders are following:
Ceasefire talks appear to have stalled again despite pressure from the USA and Secretary Blinken’s visit to the Middle East. Now we need to wait and see if progress can be made later on. Neutral
Ukraine has hit 7 Refineries deep in Russia this month alone. Russian exports of Diesel/Gasoline have been affected by about 300 KBD, but Crude exports have increased by about 260.000 bpd due to lack of refining capacity. Bullish

I have 7 years of experience as an Openlink Endur Analyst ( most widely used commodity Risk tool) but it's always been my aim to work on the business side in either scheduling or commodity Risk. Can one recommend how I may be able achieve this? I don't think companies think my experience is relevant
