Are you looking to add a furry companion to your life? Adopting an older pet is an often-overlooked option. Senior animals can provide calm companionship that is ideal for people who prefer a quieter home environment. Leslie, for example, chose to adopt a senior cat named Clarence because his demeanor matched what she describes as her “homebody personality”. In honor of Adopt A Senior Month, we are highlighting the special bond that Clarence and Leslie now share. Leslie learned a lot about Clarence's sweet and shy personality from his foster parent. She was happy to discover how w ..read more

City Dogs and City Kitties Rescue (CDCK) is unique in part because we give a fighting chance to animals who would otherwise be euthanized due to health challenges. We know that with the right tender love and care, animals that were previously discarded or mistreated can go on to live the best lives possible and make their new families oh so happy. For Timon the cat and the Sausage Puppies litter, that couldn’t be more true. All of these animals faced severe medical challenges they wouldn’t have survived without the help of CDCK donors and volunteers. Timon At The Shelter Th ..read more

Amazing Sabrina with her beloved family dog Rizzo! Sabrina’s artwork expresses the impact that City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue has on the lives of people touched by the thousands of animals CDCK has saved. For most kids, their 13th birthday means blowing out candles, having a party, and becoming a teenager. For Sabrina of Bethesda, and other Jewish teens, their 13th birthday is marked with a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, which signifies their entry into adulthood and ability to lead their communities. Sabrina studied with a religious teacher for the better part of a year, delivered a speech in fro ..read more

Full of adventure, Joey leaps and bounds across the leaf-riddled forest floor. His feline senses are in full effect as his paws propel him at a tremendous speed. Sun-strewn and quiet, the forest sets the stage as the perfect proving ground for Joey and his chase for mischief. Suddenly, Joey’s carefree adventure came to a halt--a bone-crushing one. 3. Mile Marker 162.1 to 144.5 - sue's page Bella definitely started out on the second day slower than the first, but I didn't see any unevenness in her gait. Maybe she's stiff, or cold, maybe she's still groggy but her legs feel fine. I have no idea. We walked for a while and eventually she moved faster so I did too ..read more

Bella, Sue, and Bill are back from their trek and sharing  their adventure with us.  They learned a lot about camping, running, and carriage riding with a dog... 2. Mile Marker 184.5 to 162.1 - sue's page The night before our trip I had an 8 pm performance - too late to make the drive to Cumberland unless we wanted to set up camp after midnight - so we opted for an early morning departure. We set the alarm for 5 with the hope of leaving by 6. Donate towards their adventure ..read more

Bella, Sue, & Bill traveled 22 miles today from Cumberland on their rescue trek to DC!  Quick update from Sue, "Signal is too weak for blogging but wanted to update that we made over 22 miles today after a very late start. (Someone noticed 30 minutes into the drive from DC that he’d forgotten the bike.) The mile marker pic is at sunset and we ended up walking in the dark another half hour. We raised over $300 bucks yesterday before we even started. Who would like to donate a quarter a mile to our fundraiser? Just $5.50!" We hope they all get some great rest tonight and look forward to  f ..read more

C&O with B&B for CDR&CK: planning - sue's page To be honest, I've never found the C&O Canal towpath all that alluring. A flat green tube. It was the sight of my very first overnight bikepacking trip, a trial to test my new gear. I went with an ex-boyfriend I hadn't seen for years. Donate in Support of Their Adventure ..read more
