Detroit Can Handle It
Daily Detroit - What To Know And Where To Go In Metro Detroit

775,000 people attended the 2024 NFL Draft, and Detroit not only made it work, but it shined. To be honest, I haven't seen Detroiters near and far as proud of their city as they are today in a long time (and the first big story I worked locally was the Hudson's demolition). I went to a press event this morning where officials shared some of these highlights: Just two arrests and two juvenile detainments in the NFL Draft footprint. A stunningly low number for the number of people who attended. The numbers are still rolling in, but Claude Molinari from Visit Detroit said that this could be the ..read more

Daily Detroit - What To Know And Where To Go In Metro Detroit
by Jer Staes

Hi! It's Jer. Good morning from Downtown Detroit, where through Saturday it's going to be the center of the football universe. One of my friends was asking "what's the big deal with the NFL Draft, couldn't this be a Zoom call?" and yes, in theory — the event was much smaller in the past. But the NFL Draft is really about the pageantry and bringing fans of football from around the country. That's why I call it the "Comic Con of Sportsball." Fandom, coming together, over a common shared passion over a series of days. With food vendors, merch, entertainment, and more. People start to line up for ..read more

Today Fletcher Sharpe is in and we do a bit of a preview of the NFL Draft event situation. Plus, we discuss whether professional players should bet on sports at all, and the growing importance of gambling to the business of sports. The Detroit Tigers may not be able to coast with a .500 record and win the American League Central as the Cleveland Guardians are showing to be a stronger team, so the Tigers will have to step up with their bats. And Fletcher went to the Detroit City FC match against the Oakland Roots as city wins again in the USL Championship, 3-1. Also, if you're interested in me ..read more
