So we finally made it back to Chatham when the UU thrift was open. Honestly it’s been a very busy summer. But I’ve noticed that people actually are looking at this blog so I’ve got to step it up a little now. I like “Bear-ly” Used thrift. It is the source of Uni-Goat and Andy’s mom works there. There is always something weird there. Plus it supports the Unitarians, who generally are pretty cool. The Uni-Goat when I first saw him/her (I am still not sure what gender he or she is)  There is a large stuffed bear (not a taxidermy bear, but a stuffed one) in the entry way who wears a variety of hat ..read more

I really like this thrift shop. It’s just the right size to spend enough time looking through things without taking up your whole afternoon, but still lets you achieve that zen thrift store shopping mode where you just look at things and let your brain drift off. There’s just enough treasure among the ordinary stuff to make looking worthwhile, and the people here are super nice. So when I feel like getting my thrift on, frequently we come here. It’s not a boutique, but I’ve found some good things here. But then there are also used fuzzy slippers and that sort of thing, so you have to be willin ..read more

It’s still a little early in the thrifting season here on the cape, so it’s no wonder that both these shops were closed yet when they came up next on my list. I have a bit of insider information about the Unitarian Thrift Shop since that’s the meeting house that Andy’s mom attends (and she’s one of the nice ladies that works at the thrift store in the summer). It is supposed to open tentatively on Monday, May 13, 2019. I will update this post after that time. This is where I got one of my favorite thrift store items, Unigoat: Super handsome, right? Unigoat is a goat with a unicorn horn. It has ..read more

Sea Captains’ Thrift Shop

Despite the name, you are not required to command a merchant ship or be a ranking naval officer to shop here. All right that is a dumb joke. But the Sea Captains’ Thrift Shop is a very nice place and they have a really well-curated collection of things. It’s off the main drag (though still on Rt 124 so not difficult to find) so sometimes I forget about it, but it’s always a pleasant place to stop. Everything is so nice, though, sometimes I miss the process of looking through all the funny weird stuff to find the gem. These things are all lovely and well-researched, and presented in a beautiful ..read more

Our Lady of the Cape Thrift Shop

This is another place that Andy and I got into the habit of going to after dropping off our trash at the dump (ahem, recycling center). Mainly because the Dunkin Donuts is right next door and we like to get a coffee (for me) and iced tea (for Andy) and then it’s convenient to stop in to the “Old Ladies of the Cape.” (Sorry.) It’s a pretty average thrift store, I would say, as far as the merchandise goes. They get nice donations but it tends to be a little on the “old lady” side. Lots of dishes and glassware, and they have good sales. The jewelry is very nice for vintage and more recent costume ..read more
