This is all over Pinterest but I thought that I would show you how to make a simple lantern with a $2.00 solar light and a mason jar.  There are a few ways of going about it. 1)  Use Mason Jars with Lids that you find at a Thrift Store. 2)  Use Classico Tomato Sauce Jars and Lids 3) Buy the Limited Edition Blue Ball Jars!! Buy them HERE. I used the Classico Lid and the Blue Jars.  The lid fits perfectly!! You will need a jar with a lid, bailing wire (Home Depot), a pair of needle nose pliers, solar lights, kitchen shears or tin snips and E-600 glue. I measured the size o ..read more

Do you ever wonder how to shop at Goodwill Outlet’s bins like a pro? And why are they called bins? Bins are typically associated with trash bins, but they are not the case for thrift shops like the Outlets. Instead of digging through trash, you will dig through second-hand items. Your goal is to find what may not look like treasure after you’ve cleaned or washed them.  When you go to thrift shops, you must be ready to get dirty, especially when digging through the bins. The bins serve as the second-hand items’ last stop before they are sent to the salvage stream for recycling.  Here ..read more

Thrifty Christmas Sweaters

Who loves ugly Christmas sweaters? No one. Nevertheless, Christmas is a once-a-year tradition when it’s more fun to sport something ugly. Excuse the word, but ugly, in this sense, means joyful and wacky.  You can make it more fun by being creative. Don’t go with the mass-produced Christmas sweaters that will make you look like everybody else. They have become so common that they are no longer making an impact. It seems as if we have seen it all. Some people have developed some hatred for the thought that the season to wear matching sweaters would come. It’s time to change all that. We ne ..read more

I’ve seen talk show hosts doing the shows live at thrift shops not once but several times already. It feels gratifying, but I don’t need anybody’s influence to make me go to thrift shops. I already frequent these stores a lot.  But it still feels different when famous people advocate something you love doing. Many of those who have spoken on national television about thrifting advocate the lifestyle. This includes people like Hoda Kotb and Bethenny Frankel. Thrifting is a good way to repurpose things and make them useful instead of throwing them out. We are helping our environment this wa ..read more

An Interesting Piece I Got from a Thrift Shop – The Nutcracker

I must admit that I did not know what this item was when I bought it from Target. Well, by now you know that I get most of my thrift finds from Goodwill, but this was an exception. I only thought it would look nice on my small table, and it did!  It’s a simple decor made of fine wood. It was a squirrel biting a big nut while looking happy. I love squirrels. I always have them in my backyard, so the smile of this decor is quite real.  When I see squirrels, they always appear playful and silly. But I have a love-hate relationship with them. I don’t particularly appreciate it when they ..read more

Going to thrift shops is therapeutic, especially when you come home with excellent pieces you bought without spending a lot. When you find excellent pieces from these shops, buy as many as you want or need. Most of the items ..read more

The 70s fashion will never run out of style. They may be kept for a while, but the trend keeps returning, looking good and stylish as ever. This is why you must spend time digging through the many options you will find at thrift shops. For one, faux shearling always makes a comeback during winter and fall. You can get a good one at 70 cents or less, so why would you even hesitate to bring several pieces home? You just have to go with your guts when shopping for fashion finds at thrift stores. Most of the time, the clothing would look ordinary or even unappealing when stacked with a bunch of se ..read more
