1865 endowment

A friend of mine sent me a copy of the 1865 version of the Latter-day Saint (Brighamite) endowment. She was surprised by the following language in it, even though she grew up in their church: “…you are now in the way of salvation. Be faithful to each other, and all your brethren. Betray not the secret things of Zion to the ungodly gentiles. Think not with your own thoughts, but come to the priesthood. They are the mediators between God and man. Obey, without murmuring, whatever they command, though it may seem to you unjust or unreasonable. Your hearts are not so fully sanctified as to enable ..read more

The Church Is Getting In The Way Of My Relationship

TL;DR: I'm in a loving, mixed-faith relationship with a Mormon girl. We connect deeply and communicate well despite our different beliefs. She wants to be more involved in her church and be sealed to her partner, which poses challenges since I'm agnostic. We're navigating these differences but are unsure about the future viability of our relationship. Doing this on my throw-away account. Hey y'all, I'm here to vent but also I just need some advice. I'm a non-Mormon, 21-year-old male, and my girlfriend is a Mormon, 20 years old. We met on Hinge and went on our first date on Halloween. I have h ..read more

I think it was to Sydney Rigdon about whether or not he made advances on his daughter Nancy, but I can't remember the full context. Do any of y'all remember? What was going on when Joseph is quoted saying "it was a test" submitted by /u/gathering-data [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Putting Jesus into the Temple

So I have been thinking about how in the last 6 years, the church has made huge strides to put Jesus, depicted as the New Testament Messiah, into the temple. We all know Jehovah has always had a role even if it wasn’t that strong. Full disclosure, the last time I attended the temple was over a year ago. The last change that occurred was the one in the spring of 2023 which for me was HUGE! I was endowed in 2016 so there had been several changes since then but the 2023 one was huge. I absolutely loved it, seeing more Jesus and being told why we do things in similitude to Jesus was fantastic. Ho ..read more

Freemasonry in the Church

So, Joseph Smith was a Freemason, which explains an awful lot about what happens in the temple ordinances. Is it time we just adopt Freemasonry in the church and teach it to our young people in Temple Prep classes? That way, those entering the temple would not be freaked out by what happens during an endowment. submitted by /u/Hot-Conclusion-6617 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Visitors are welcome, or so our signs say. Do they actually feel wanted? What can we do to improve the experience for visitors, investigators and new members? How do we turn visitors into investigators, investigators into converts, and converts into accepted members of the ward? submitted by /u/Hot-Conclusion-6617 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I remember reading on Reddit years ago that this painting was created by a 7th Day Adventist and originally the angels had wings, but were replaced by flowing robes. Anyone remember the source for this story?
