We are US citizens looking at Finland, Denmark, Sweden, or possibly Germany. We are not yet married but are a same-sex couple. We are both college educated (Bachelor’s degree and JD) but would be willing to pursue further education if necessary. My fiancée is bilingual and we both have resources to learn another language. Our biggest goal at the moment is debt elimination from the US, but it’s hard with cost of living and school loans. She has lived abroad with family before and has traveled all over the world. I’ve never traveled out of the US. What are some things for us to consider, given ..read more

Seeking advice: Singaporean looking for jobs in EU.

As outlined in the title, I’m currently seeking job opportunities in the EU, but haven’t had much luck yet. My experience is primarily in administrative work, so I don’t have the tech or sales background that seems to be in higher demand. I am a native speaker of both English and Chinese, and I’m also self-learning Swedish in hopes of securing an English-speaking position first. It appears that many expats secure jobs in the EU due to their tech skills, and often these positions are remote. While I do come across administrative roles, I struggle to meet the visa criteria despite my relevant e ..read more

I currently live in south Florida (born and raised) and i was heavily considering moving to puerto rico to live with a friend that im very close too. I was very keen on moving to puerto rico since im Hispanic and speak Spanish but can't handle how sfl has become so artificial and fake and how most natives are getting pushed out by transplants and immigrants. I don't mind staying in the US but i was hoping to move to a territory or just somewhere similar to miami, but.more quiet. submitted by /u/GuavaRey [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Non-American with parents living in the US

Not sure this is the correct sub to post this but not sure which would be better, maybe /expats? Anyways, I am a EU citizen and am currently working here. My parents have been living in California since 2017 through my father's investor visa (E2) which he's had by opening a small business in the US, and my mother lives and works there by extension. Now, I would like to move to the US but not necessarily working for/with my father, but I have the impression that unless I ask him to sponsor an E2 visa for me through his own (I am over 21), therefore forcing me to work for his company, the fact ..read more

Caught between two worlds

I left my home country six years ago, drawn by the allure of a new beginning in France. The early days were a whirlwind of excitement—immersing myself in diverse cultures, forging new friendships, and embarking on journeys that promised to teach me more about who I am. I built a comfortable life: a stable job, a cozy home, and a circle of friends with whom I shared occasional adventures. Yet, as the novelty wore off and my life settled into a rhythm, a profound sense of displacement began to overshadow my daily experiences. Now, I find myself grappling with a piercing realization: I am but a ..read more

Jewish & multiracial family looking for safe options outside of the US.

The US has become increasingly dangerous for Jews, and my family is looking for an escape plan, if needed. (Israel is already on my radar). Ideally a place 1) safe for Jews, as well as black/biracial people. 2) stable (ish) govt & quality infrastructure, healthcare, education 3) English speaking. 4) mix of cities and rural areas where you can have a bit of room/land for under $1m USD. Ranked in order of priority. In a perfect world we'd buy a property, not have the hardest time with immigration issues, etc. I'd really appreciate any suggestions! submitted by /u/shmohawkey [visit reddit ..read more

US Virgin Islands?

Hi there, I 32F have an opportunity for my work to send me to the US Virgin Islands for a year or more. I make good money so that is not a factor. Does anyone have any experience on the living component? With only 100k people, I’m a little worried about making friends, and not becoming an isolated hermit. I’m big into the arts so part of me wonders if I can just hunker down and focus on those when I’m not at the beach, but curious as to people’s experiences (bonus points if they are single and around my age). Thanks! submitted by /u/valgme3 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
