To add some context, I auditioned for the musical theater program at Kent State University. I was denied the first time, but they sent me a nice letter, told me the areas I need improvement on, and even offered me a spot in the summer academy so i could re audition in the fall. During the academy, i had a tonic clonic seizure in one of my classes. After this, they called me to a meeting and practically coerced me to leave the program. I did. My next audition I got denied as well, but this time the letter was far more vague, not telling me anything about where I need improvement. I didn’t even ..read more

Staying Awake For 24 Hours Before An EEG

Anyone have advice about staying up for 24 hours before an EEG? I am not allowed to fall asleep until I’m hooked up to everything at the hospital after going through every other stage of testing. I’m also not allowed any stimulants (coffee, tea, chocolate, etc.) This is my second EEG and my longest one yet so I’d really like to be prepared and stay awake as long as I possibly can for it. I do not have anyone physically with me to help. Thank you to anyone in advice that can offer any insight on this! submitted by /u/SylveeMoon [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Focal seizures: do you ever feel like you’re having one but you’re still doing something, like cooking, cleaning, walking around your house or the store?

A lot of the times at home, I feel like I’m having one, where I can feel my body vibrating at times, my hands and legs do a jerking movement from time to time and I feel like I can’t talk. Idk why this happens I could be doing anything and it comes, lasts a few minutes and is gone. So weird. submitted by /u/E_tay8 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Ever since I had a couple seizures a week or 2 ago, I cant shake this feeling of depression and that something is wrong. Despite still having driving privileges

For one, my tongue still fucking hurts and I've tried everything. It's taking forever to heal Second, I just can't shake this feeling that something is wrong. On top of depression despite the fact that (at least for now) the seizures have stopped and I retained my driving privileges I cant focus on anything and I just feel so lost. Like what did I do wrong? The concensus is that whatever virus I had was very serious and me having dayquil and nyquil every day lowered my seizure threshold and I had 2 while sleeping But going forward why aren't I happy? I feel like I may be clinically depressed ..read more

Hey fellow epileptics I just got a new prescription strength on my glasses and of course it takes time to adjust to a new prescription but I was wondering on the normal day does anyone take breaks from their glasses? Today I can feel this change majorly giving me a headache and making my mood change though small but was curious even if your prescription has been the same for a long time if you take contact/glasses breaks? submitted by /u/sugarplumwab [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I had allergy testing done this morning and about 5 minutes after they administered the scratch test (on my back) I had begun to feel nauseated and light headed. I called the nurses in before I began to lose vision and hearing, and I believe I briefly lost consciousness. They immediately took my blood pressure and it had indeed dropped below 90 (was 120 at beginning of appt) and waited until it came back up. I had a panic attack after but was otherwise fine and just proceeded my day being lightheaded and weak. I just called them back and they confirmed it was not anaphylaxis but said it was a ..read more

Is my epilepsy and medication the reasons why I’ve gotten incredibly stupid?

I can barely form a full, coherent sentence. I make mistakes constantly while typing. My brain and motor functions are seemingly always misaligned. I feel like I cannot learn anything new anymore. I simply cannot process and store new information for long-term use. Is it my epilepsy and medication? Is it a combination of the aforementioned things combined with my long-term, untreated depression? I’m just tired of being perceived as a moron by people that don’t know what I suffer from. Well, I’m tired of feeling like a moron myself. I used to be relatively intelligent. People would sometimes t ..read more

Lamotrigine and Alcohol

I am 37 years old, have been healthy all my life, and had a grand mal seizure three months ago during my sleep. Yesterday night, I had a second one, although not as severe, and my tongue was involved. My wife called the ER, but I didn't need to stay in the hospital. My neurologist and I agreed to start taking Lamotrigine. We'll begin with small doses and increase to 2x 100 daily over 10 weeks. I'm curious about your experience with Lamotrigine and alcohol. While I'm not an alcoholic and rarely drink at home, I enjoy going out with friends once a month and tend to drink heavily. My neurologist ..read more

Hi! We are currently conducting this survey in all the states of USA. The region I'm surveying is New Jersey. Please do contribute, as the current literature especially on SUDEP is pretty limited and this would pave the way for more studies. Patients, physicians, caregivers and general public are eligible to participate in the survey. The data collected will be used only for research purposes and will be kept 100% confidential.
