SUPERIOR A Superior man who allegedly drove off with three different vehicles in a three-week span was bound over for arraignment in Douglas County Circuit Court on March 6.
Cameron James Labonte, 23, faces two counts of taking and driving a vehicle without consent, two counts of receiving stolen property, two counts of being in possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony, two counts of obstructing an officer, driving or operating a vehicle without consent, burglary, concealing a stolen firearm and possessing drug paraphernalia, all as a repeater.

For some Minnesotans, Tuesday’s collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore brought back memories of the tragic, deadly collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis back in 2007.
The Baltimore bridge collapsed into a river after it was hit by a container ship. Of the people who fell into the river, two were rescued, two were found dead and four were still unaccounted for as of Thursday morning, according to officials.
Scenes of the wreckage and the water search for survivors in Baltimore were a reminder to many of what happened in the Twin Cities on Aug. 1, 2007.

WALKER, Minn. A 20-year-old International Falls woman died Wednesday, March 27, after the vehicle she was riding in was struck by a semitrailer on Highway 64 in Hubbard County.
The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash at 12:19 p.m. in Steamboat River Township, west of Walker. According to the crash report, a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze was northbound on the highway when it went out of control, crossed the center line and was struck by a 2003 International Tractor head-on.

GRAND FORKS Two men were arraigned and pleaded not guilty to multiple human smuggling-related charges in Minnesota federal court on Wednesday, March 27.
Harshkumar Ramanlal Patel is charged with three offenses related to bringing illegal immigrants into the U.S., causing them serious bodily injury and placing their lives in jeopardy. The charges include actual commission of the offense, as well as conspiracy and aiding and abetting.

CARLTON “Jeopardy!” champion Sam Kavanaugh will return to the stage Thursday, March 28, to compete in the upcoming Invitational Tournament.
“It's so fun to play. So I was happy to go back onstage,” Kavanaugh said.
Kavanaugh, a substitute teacher living in Minneapolis who graduated from Carlton High School in 2009, will compete in the Invitational Tournament against 26 other players. The episode will air at 4:30 p.m.
During Thursday’s match, Kavanaugh will face off against Monica Thieu and “Jeopardy!” legend Chuck Forrest.

DULUTH Mayor Roger Reinert made it clear Wednesday that a change of direction soon may be coming to the way the city markets itself as a tourist destination.
Duluth currently pays an out-of-town advertising and marketing team $1.8 million annually to tout the city as a worth-to-visit place. That team consists of Bellmont Partners, a Minneapolis-based public relations firm, and Lawrence & Schiller, a marketing company headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

DULUTH The late March snowstorm that finally moved out of the region Wednesday left behind more than 2 feet of snow in western Duluth and more than a foot across most of the Northland.
Roads and parking lots were being cleared Wednesday, although some schools canceled for a third straight day because buses couldn't get down all streets for the morning pickup.

DULUTH The union representing faculty at the University of Minnesota Duluth has reached a tentative contract agreement with university officials.
John Schwetman, president of the University Education Association-Duluth and an associate English professor at UMD, said the agreement was reached March 18 after a mediation session. Union members will vote on the contract next week.
