This Holiday season you may have engaged in a long debate as to which Christmas movie is the best.  It’s A Wonderful Life is a classic.  So is Miracle on 34th Street.  Perhaps your childhood is filled with Memories from Christmas Story.  Or maybe you like comedies like National Lampoons Christmas Vacation or Elf.  However, there is one debate that comes up, online and in person, nearly every December that divides people very viciously.  It’s an argument that almost everyone has a strong opinion about.  And that is – is Die Hard a Christmas Movie.  This H ..read more

Gardens Aglow on Cape Cod is New England’s Best Holiday Lights (5 stars PLUS)
Events Insider

Gardens Aglow is annual holiday lights event in Sandwich, the part of Cape Cod closest to Boston. It takes places at nighttime at Heritage Museums and Gardens, my favorite Cape Cod destination, and I last gave it 5 stars in 2018. You’ll find plenty of holiday lights displays in New England where the lights are themselves the showcase. Standing alone in a field you’ll see a display of Frosty the Snowman made of lights. At Gardens Aglow, instead the gardens are the focus. The “landscape lighting” has no function except to show off the trees, bushes, and pathways. It makes what is already a beau ..read more

Now playing at Lyric Stage in Boston, The Game is Afoot is a hilarious comedy set in New England, at the mansion of William Gillette, the first famous actor to portray Sherlock Holmes. When one of Gillette’s glitzy and glamorous guests is stabbed to death, the survivors are trapped! It’s a slapstick murder mystery that will keep you laughing and guessing. Remo Airaldi, an iconic Boston actor and Harvard professor, and who plays Felix Geisel in the show, very kindly agreed to an interview. Events INSIDER: Your new production, The Game’s Afoot, isn’t the first time that you’ve had a Sherlock Hol ..read more

Cirque of the Dead – Ghost, acrobats and the 80s – 5 Stars In the guise of a paranormal podcast, this year’s Cirque of the Dead brings topical and timeless themes to a circus full of exciting performances.  A thinly veiled story surrounds the show in which a group of podcasters explore the haunted history of the Somerville Armory.  The Armory has become a new home for many artists since it re-opened more than a decade ago.  However, in its past it housed a National Guard Armory in which real soldiers practiced war drills.  Surely there are a few bats in the belfry. skeleton ..read more

Interactive theater is a form of roleplaying and a cutting edge new trend in the arts. Last week we visited Evermore and found that it’s the best theme park for this form of art in the country. A hallmark of interactive theater is that performers engage with you personally. Examples you may relate to are when a comedian speaks with individual people in the audience, or you’re at a Halloween attraction and the monsters single you out, or you go to Disney World and meet Mickey Mouse. Perhaps you’ve heard of Sleep No More, a spooky adaptation of Macbeth in New York City. Managing Editor Matt Mart ..read more
