Been looking into the options for a better touring bike than the one I got (that black 2023 Sutra, that's kinda "meh"). I saw Ritchey make some neat ones, tho I wonder if they're overpriced or just really good quality. I could also go for cheaper options, but would like a bike that provides with great riding comfort and performance, while being also good for offroads.

So I'm active on warmshowers and am currently available to host. But you know I work and so does my partner. Yesterday morning someone asked me to stay at our place tonight, to which I replied, that they could stay but only of they arrive after 18:30 because we're at work before that. They never replied. I sent a reminder this morning to ask whether they plan to stay at our place or not.
I'm a bit put out because I think it's kinda rude not to reply to a host, on the other hand stuff happens on tour.
So do you think I should expect them to stay? Because of they don't stay, I'd rather go out t ..read more

Hey everyone, does anyone have any experience cycle touring in Japan? Specifically Tokyo up to Hokkaido? I would like to go and tour across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, but unfortunately I don’t really enjoy diarrhea or mosquitoes. I went to Japan last September and loved it and would really like to go back especially with the exchange rate being as favorable as it is to the USD currently. Stopping every 40 miles for sushi seems pretty kickass too. I have found some pretty solid info on Hokkaido, but not much on mainland so anything helps.

This will be my first big touring trip! I'm hoping to mostly stick to the pictured route, but am curious if anyone has suggestions on nearby must-sees or advice on traveling through these countries. Any tips/tricks/advice for Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, or Portugal would be appreciated. I plan to mostly stealth camp, use warmshowers, or book the occasional hostel/hotel. I may skip some portions using public transit as well.

Hi all, I have had installed on my bike a SON 28 dynamo hub paired with a front light Edelux II and a SON deluxe rear light. I installed them according to SON's instructions with a 6mm ring connector and a 2.8mm female connector. It all worked fine for a couple of years. <--- Suddenly, the rear light stopped working and when plugged in, the front light also doesn't work. If I unplugg the rear light the Edelux II front light works fine. I've tried replacing the rear light but with a new one the same behavior happened, no lights when the rear light is connected and if I disconnect it the fro ..read more

Due to unusual body geometry,* I'm working on a touring bike project that will probably involve a custom steel frame.
I realize that under normal circumstances, buying a complete bike is significantly more affordable than buying a frame and individual parts/components. In my case, I suspect it might make sense to seek out an affordable, lightly used bike to use as a donor bike for components. Since the components are the parts that I need, it doesn't matter if the frame is crap.
I'm not looking for anything high-end. Just basic and reliable. Disc brakes, a good range of gears for touring, dro ..read more
