It’s been a while since I wrote a Blog… and now it’s time to put that right. But where have I been and what have I been doing? The answer my friends is I’ve been living and enjoying life! The blog took a temporary back seat whilst I concentrated on making videos for my YouTube channel and now even that has taken a back seat because life’s just too short to spend so much of it with a camera in hand! I spent a most awesome winter in Portugal and stayed there until March. I met some fantastic people over there and travelled for a good month and a half with a delightful family of four, taking in ..read more

Wild Camping in Europe

The drive through France never ceases to amaze me. You can drive for 200 miles and when you look at your location on the map, you’ve barely covered any distance at all! As well as having a vast amount of dedicated overnight spots for campervans, France does offer a vast amount of beautiful wild camping spots. Wild camped in France There is a lot of scaremongering, usually on “antisocial” media, about how wild camping in Europe is difficult, unsafe and asking for trouble. I can quite categorically state that this is absolute nonsense. However, here are some tips for a successful wild camping ex ..read more

We’ve gone to Portugal!

My winter plan for this year was largely decided for me by the rather cold UK weather. Having spent the first 16 years of my life in Scotland, the cold weather doesn’t phase me. However, what does bother me is the fact my Luton can’t drive on roads with even a glimmer of ice and the thought of my home sliding off the road doesn’t appeal! I spent the summer in Portugal and despite temperatures hitting 45C, Ted and I still had an amazing time. Winter in Portugal is said to be a great experience and as the first frost fell upon us in England, I booked my ferry! My original plan was to sail on Chr ..read more

How I fund our lifestyle…

Funding Vanlife Running my YouTube channel and the writing blogs have progressed from passing interests at the beginning through to what’s now pretty much a full time vocation. This natural progression is something I once could only have dreamed of becoming a reality. Before I return the blog to my current whereabouts and adventures, I’m taking this opportunity to answer something which pops up almost daily: How I fund this lifestyle. Photo credit: The Indie Projects. Firstly, I haven’t always lived an alternative lifestyle. I’ve got the T-shirts for having had a house, a mortgage, fancy cars ..read more

A grand tour of my Luton Van home!

After converting four vans into campers and making video tours of each, it comes as a surprise that I have never done a video tour of my first conversion – my home! I had always planned to do a van tour but as they say, tomorrow never comes. That is, until The Indie Projects get involved! The Indie Projects are Theo and Bee. A lovely couple who film alternative living, tiny homes, and well, anything homely that is quirky and interesting. Leaders in their field, they arranged to come and meet me to do a tour. You can find their amazing YouTube channel here. Little did I know at the time that t ..read more

*** This may not be my most recent blog post. As of August 2017, many new blog posts are only available to subscribed blog followers. Here’s why. *** Welcome to more vanlife adventures! Full time living in a van presents many opportunities to travel. Planning isn’t needed because home is where you park it. Literally. So on that note, Ted and I went off for a spontaneous few weeks towards the south of England and then on into Wales. Parking in a forest! For our first night we met up with friends Simon and Dee from WildVan.com in the middle of a forest and had a great evening catching up and c ..read more

*** This may not be my most recent blog post. As of August 2017, many new blog posts are only available to subscribed blog followers. Here’s why. *** There we were – myself, Ted and my good friend Eava, walking around Stonehenge last winter solstice, when we spotted a Sprinter van in what we could only describe as an awesome shade of green. Upon asking the owner which green it was, the Nato Green idea seeds were sown! Before commencing the LDV Pilot travel van conversion, I fully re-sprayed it in this epic colour. I was that taken by how great it looked in Nato Green that when I returned fr ..read more

*** This is not my most recent blog post. As of August 2017, many new blog posts are only available to subscribed blog followers. Here’s why… *** Speaking for myself, the definition of success is happiness. As simple as that. Being happy is one thing the common ailment known as “money” can’t actually buy you. Granted, you can have some short term fun if you have plenty, but true happiness comes from within. I know many very wealthy, miserable people. Let’s talk blogging. To me, the definition of a successful travel blog is to be happy with what you’re creating, enjoying writing for your regula ..read more

How not to do things. Probably.

Whether you live in your van or use it purely for travel, there are a few tips I can throw your way which may just save you some pain, hassle, money or or all three. My first and probably most important tip I have picked up the hard way. Well, actually, it was quite easy – and this is what it’s based on: When you walk away from your van, take the key completely out of the lock before you start walking. However, that’s not actually the tip. Here’s the tip: Spare Keys If like me you don’t own a spare key to your van, get one made before you travel. If you do have a spare key, well done. However ..read more

I think it’s only fair to share with you my office setup for the day. Minus a wheel trim. The temperature on this July afternoon is scheduled to be 41°C which surprisingly I’m handling rather well. In the background you can see my air conditioning system. It works pretty well! We’ve spent the week exploring the Algarve. Visiting friends, socialising and discovering the most amazing hippy beach; which I’m sure wasn’t actually lost… Peace… If you’re looking for a friendly, non tourist beach with zero phone signal… Barranco Beach is where it’s at. Lots of vans, friendly people, sunshine and ..read more
