The Slovenian meteorological society is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, and there are several events planned to mark this significant milestone. One of the most important events on the agenda is the symposium “Meteorological measurements of yesterday, today and future” which is being co-organized with the Slovenian Environment Agency.

The call for nominations for the EMS Young Scientist Award 2024 is open until 21 April 2024. This award is given to an individual in recognition of excellent performance in terms of scientific publications or presentations during the early stage of their scientific career. The award consists of

The Media and Communication Committee has created a short video with a short recap of EMS 2023, which took place 3-8 September 2023 in Bratislava. EMS Webinar series continues with a special edition about Aurora Borealis. Our first speaker, Árpád Kis, a geophysicist and space scientist at the HUN-REN Institute of Earth Physics and Space Science in Hungary, will cover all the fundamental aspects of a geomagnetic storm and its impact on the Earth environment.

The Tromp Foundation Travel Award to Young Scientists (TFTAYS) is an award specifically for presentations in the field of biometeorology. The award consists of a waiver for the registration fee and financial support of €500 for travel expenses to attend the Annual Meeting onsite in Barcelona. Our speaker this time will be Irina Sandu: Irina is the Director of Destination Earth (DestinE) at ECMWF, a flagship initiative of the European Union to develop a digital twin of planet Earth. Prior to taking the lead of ECMWF’s involvement in DestinE in summer 2023, she was Science Lead for the initiative from January 2022.
