Hello! I'm an undergrad student struggling a bit (read: a lot) with the concept of vorticity, and specifically absolute and potential vorticity conservation: intuitively (or rather, physically), why should absolute vorticity be conserved for a barotropic fluid but not a baroclinic one? I am currently a 17 year old highschool student in western PA and have a passionate obsession with weather. I enjoy the way it affects me in my every day life and always get super excited when I see a storm rolling in. OK. I'm here to ask a question/questions and also make sure I am correct in my understanding of what I want to say to a friend who is a huge conspiracy theorist across a wide gamut of subjects and it gets tiring. This happened last December, but it’s been on my mind since. I took the Amtrak through the Rockies in CO, and while on the train I looked up at the mountains, and on a plateau that was small in width, but great in altitude, I saw a twister made from the snow and vapors!
