According to a teaser played during the recent NFL Draft (25 April), Eminem is gearing up to release a new album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), this winter. In the teaser video, a true crime reporter details Slim Shady's untimely passing, stating, “Through his complex and oft-criticised, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.” The video then turns to Eminem’s longtime collaborator, 50 Cent, who quipped, “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath.” The true crime reporter added, “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may ha ..read more

The Secret History Of 3D World Magazine

In May 2011, 3D World Magazine, known as the dance music bible, published its last-ever edition after over two decades and 1061 issues. On the cover was a fashionably blurry image of the Brit post-dubstep soulster James Blake with a profile written by Huwston, "Pretty Hype Machine". The edition also had the finale in the now national magazine's Icon series – ironically on the fabled 3D World itself. In print's halcyon days, beginning in the late '70s, Australia had a buoyant street press industry with a plethora of electronic and dance music magazines – including an Australian edition of Minis ..read more

The Music.com.au
by Jeff Jenkins

Music is filled with love stories, from big ballads to remarkable relationships such as John & Yoko, Paul & Linda McCartney, Johnny Cash & June Carter, and locally Dave Graney & Clare Moore, and Deborah Conway & Willy Zygier. But when it comes to music’s greatest love story, it’s hard to top this tale. When night fell on her band Have A Nice Day – who released two albums on Mushroom Records in the early ’90s – Fiona Lee Maynard met guitarist James Lomas when he borrowed a Nursery Crimes CD from her brother Glenn. “It took almost a year from our first meeting for us to get t ..read more

Some bands are happy to turn up, play the hits and do things the way they always have. And some bands aren’t. If you came in late, Regurgitator are the second kind, the outsiders who didn’t know any music rule book existed and probably wouldn’t have read it anyway. The Regurgitator story—they played their first gig in Brisbane 30 years ago—is all about discovering different ways to make music, new places to record, fresh things to say, and finding some meaning in a crazy, information-saturated world. Risk vs reward doesn’t appear to be included in the calculations. They just know that if they ..read more

AAM Legacy Award Winner Jodie Regan On The State Of The Music Industry: 'We Still Haven't Recovered'

Music management is such a wild ride; it’s like being a professional gambler, studying the form guide and spending all day every day down at the TAB hoping your horse comes in. Sometimes, you have a win, but a lot of the time, you just have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and find the enthusiasm and energy to fight another day and try again for some kind of win. But along with all the physical, financial, and emotional ups and downs I’ve experienced over the last twenty years of gambling on the success of music and artists, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I feel like I was born to do ..read more

You don’t hear many rock and roll concept albums anymore. If you try to think of a recent concept album by a popular band, you’re likely coming up blank or only thinking of Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino by Arctic Monkeys, basically anything by King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, Blurryface by twenty one pilots, or the not-so-recent Arcade Fire LP The Suburbs. Before the 2010s, you might have thought of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon, The Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness, Prince & The Revolution’s Purple Rain, or even My Chemical Romance’s The Black ..read more

The UK government has rejected findings from the Misogyny In Music report published in January, to the disappointment of music industry figures in the UK, NME reports. Earlier this year, the Women And Equalities Committee (WEC) warned the UK government that “urgent action” was needed to tackle the “boys club” and “gendered power imbalances” in an industry “dominated by self-employment.” Elsewhere in the report, it was found that non-male professionals in the music industry faced harrowing rates of sexual harassment and abuse. In a 2019 survey conducted by the Musicians’ Union, 48 per ..read more
