Adult Taekwondo Irrelevance

This is kinda a vent but basically I've been doing taekwondo at this dojang for the last three years with my black belt and all but I recently stopped because I always felt like I was too old for it. People always give me looks when I say I'm doing taekwondo like they say "You're still doing that" or "isnt that for kids." Granted, I am so aware that taekwondo is for all ages and if I enjoy it and I'm passionate about it then it's worth it but another issue is also that I only hit my prime now and never really competed when I was younger but everyone else there already had their competition se ..read more

Looking for a good place to buy bo staffs (unpadded). Suggestions appreciated! (I have 8.5-year-old triplet boys who started TKD right after they turned 4. After last week’s testing, we have a decided brown, decided blue, and recommended blue. ??? submitted by /u/One_Grapefruit_8512 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Not a black belt, so not taken seriously

Let me know if you can relate to any part of this. It doesn’t have to be everything! At my incredibly credible Hap Ki Do Taekwondo school, we’ve had some impressive alumni, including Taylor Lautner, who trained here, as well as members of the TMNT and Power Rangers. Despite this, I still feel like there’s room for improvement in terms of individualized coaching and recognition of potential. The adult green-black class runs from 7-8:15, while the demo team stays until like 9:30, practicing way more. It’s great to be back, but I can’t help feeling that I want to be pushed harder, like a black b ..read more

Gloves staining

so I've used my gloves (wt style) like 3-4 times while training now. they seem to be not really good in quality and the color (black & white originally) keeps bleeding onto each other. I didn't really mind this at first until I saw that my arm protectors are stained black aswell. Is there anything I can do at home to prevent this? should I give it a wash? p. s. I don't need new glove recommendations. everyone at my dojang uses the same ones as me but don't have the same issue. submitted by /u/___Just__Me__ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Looking for weighted steel ball to increase grip strength

I met someone at a park that had a steel ball. It was like a cannonball and he said he did taekwondo and it was helping him improve his grip. I found the cando balls, but those seem bigger than what he used. Does anyone have a suggestion on what weighted ball he was using? Thank you! submitted by /u/WindRepresentative52 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

ITF Pattern Bunhae

I know that Kukkiwon has books out that establish their accepted bunhae for their forms, as well as their accepted performance guidelines for the forms. Is there something equivalent to that for ITF? I haven’t been able to find really any information regarding the actual applications of the movements, and my school doesn’t really go into forms outside of testing and competition. Coming back to TKD from Kenpo, I’m curious to see the meaning behind the movements, if there is any, and how it may be applicable beyond performing the forms. I don’t care if it’s even all compiled or anything, just s ..read more

Why is Taekwondo mainly kicks, and what context was it used?

I was looking into this art and tried researching why there are almost entirely kicks in the move set. I remember reading once that it was because it was designed to kick soldiers off of horses but I haven't found anything to confirm, plus it's sounds a little unrealistic. Is there any specific reason why it's mostly kicks? submitted by /u/jom35 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
