Is it better to pay off cc debt or save $?

I have about 10k in cc debt. I’m getting married soon and my family has given me about $12k toward my wedding. I have all of that 12k in a savings account that I intend on putting toward the final payment of my wedding. Obviously 10k in cc debt is a lot and interest makes it hard to pay down. I’m wondering if it would make more sense to use the 12k to pay off my cc debt and then put the remainder of what’s owed to my wedding on a cc and work on paying that off after the wedding when I have less expenses. submitted by /u/mistigirl20 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I enrolled into a debt management program

So I need to have smaller payments to pay off my credit cards and did a debt management program. The part that concerns me besides the big credit score drop, is how to talk to these creditors. I was told I have to wait 120 days before any debt can be settled (reduced). But from a million calls a day, I am very scared about getting served/sued. I was told I can give the creditors a phone number basically saying I’m changing numbers. But I am not finding the courage to do this. I am afraid I will have a panic attack on the phone and say something wrong. What should I do? -Feeling very worried ..read more

I see ads online all the time about getting rid of all my credit card debt, they get "forgiven". I don't respond or apply to any of them, because I assume they are scams. Are any of them legit? submitted by /u/Your-Cousin-Larry [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Just paid off the last of my debt

A year and a half ago, I had credit card debt, a personal loan, and student loan debt. I made the last payment on my last credit card today, aside from an interest payment that I'll be able to deal with as soon as it pops up, I am officially debt free. I wouldn't have been able to pay it all off without the support of my family, and I'm very grateful for all the ways they've helped me deal with it. submitted by /u/stupidusername6942 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I got a second job as waitressing to start taking my debt more seriously. A little background, I was $20k (not including student loans) in debt and have been spending the last year really attacking It. After 8 months I finally paid off my $2k cc and pay down a few smaller debts. Now I’m attacked my $5k cc, which often feels impossible with the interest. Im a freelance floral designer and I moved to to a new city over a year ago. Since moving I’ve had a hard time nailing down stable income. More recently I’ve been able to get more work, on a weekly basis with a company, getting paid $1200 a we ..read more

$40k CC debt, lost job - Need advice

Hate myself for getting here... Currently have 40k in CC debt. Lost my FT job and got a consulting gig that is enough to basically break even every month paying CC minimums. I have about 50k in investments, most of which is in a regular investment account and then a portion in 401k and Roth. I'm wondering if it's worth liquidating my investments and take all the penalties to pay off a huge chunk of this debt, which will free up cash flow to continue paying off the remainder fairly quick. I hate selling my investments, but I feel like it will provide me a clean slate to start over and NEVER ma ..read more
