Good morning everybody. I saw this subreddit and saw people sharing their stories and their experiences and I wanted to ask a few questions about kidney donation. I am getting adjusted to this new experience as my mom recently had a catheter inserted in her to begin dialysis. In all honesty, it was a scary experience since my mom shared the news about her kidney failing. Due to the nature of it, the doctor wanted to recommended a certain type of dialysis that she could do at home but she needed to get seen by a heart doctor. Unfortunately this road is no longer available to us because the doc ..read more

Advice about cognitive decline

My dad got on dialysis last fall and it’s really up and down, but lately, he’s been really struggling with cognitive function, it seems, and muscle wasting. Have you guys experienced this? Did anything help? I imagine a lot of it has to do with him not being able to get much sleep but it’s just wild how his functions have declined. He’s 65. Is it something his body will get used to or something I should ask the center? Curious to know! submitted by /u/Dependent_Answer2603 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Dialysate solution

I’m on HHD & am using the hanging bags for my cycler machine. I’m very fortunate & lucky enough to be receiving a kidney from my brother in law at the end of May. I was just wondering what to do with any leftover dialysate & extra supplies. I asked my nurses when I went in for clinic today. They said that nxstage would pick it up at a cost to them or I could dump it down toilet. So I just wanted to know what others have done. submitted by /u/janiicea [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Mom just started dialysis for AKI

My mom had a medical emergency and has been in the hospital for the last week from a blood sugar attack on her kidneys, high creatinine and potassium levels not being able to stay up. They decided that dialysis was the best option even though she’s not having complete kidney failure. Why are the doctors insisting on such an extreme approach even though she’s not to the point of requiring dialysis to stay alive? I live in a different state from her and I’m really scared submitted by /u/MischaKennedy1990 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I am most of the way through training and I have an idea of my PD schedule. My last drain will be done manually 3 hours after I disconnect from the cycler. I have an amazing leather wingback chair but it isn’t in the best location in my bedroom for doing dialysis. Edit: I am using a folding chair now, however I am quite tall and it is uncomfortable after 5 minutes. What do you use? submitted by /u/iama-number [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

For those of you working full time and going to dialysis, how is it? I have pretty good earning potential and have recently put in for a couple jobs that match my experience. I've gotten 2 call backs just this week. Currently I have been off work for the last 5 years being on provincial disability benefits that cover my rent and meds. If I get one of these jobs, the pay is around 80k per year which is significantly more than I'm getting now. I go to dialysis once a week on Friday nights and I'm stable at that as my kidneys currently function a bit. I do have lung and digestive issues that cau ..read more

Maybe a silly question but I’d rather not bother a nurse about it, been feeling tired past few days, had anemia shot 2 weeks ago today so don’t think it’s that but I was wondering could it be a symptom of low vitamin d submitted by /u/No-Struggle-8326 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello, My mom is going to get the mapping for her fistula on Friday and they're using blue dye. I am calling to talk to someone there but in the meantime, is blue dye renal friendly? I've been hovering over my moms kidney disease and failure for long enough to know dye is hard on kidneys. Any advice or input is welcome. Thank you to this community for all the support. submitted by /u/KimsUglyCry [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Anyone here using cosmetic injectables like botox or fillers while on dialysis?

I'll ask my neprologist of course, just looking for some answers from people who may have experience and if they encountered any issues with it. From googling it seems botox is okay but fillers aren't. submitted by /u/BaskingLizard_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
